Stupid Entitled Writers

I promise I'm not going to rip on just one writer, much as I think it's appropriate given that she spawned this rant.  I mean, I will, but she's not the only one that gets a mention.  There are a bunch of writers that think they're so amazing and everyone loves them and everyone should be buying all of their books by default and...Ugh.  Really, that's disgusting behavior.  I know that the more famous you become (whether it's known regardless of genre or within a genre) you're going to lose sight of some important things, but really.

So, here's what spawned this rant.  This writer (who is not my cup of tea to begin with, but I initially had to problems) wants everyone to buy her books on a Tuesday so it counts towards her New York Times Bestseller score.  Some people bought the book Monday because they *GASP* couldn't make it out to the store Tuesday.  Wow, how mind-boggling that life gets in the way.  So this one fan writes to the author and says "I'm sorry I couldn't buy your books Tuesday, but I really liked what I read."  If I were a writer, I would be ridiculously happy that someone was buying.  Author says "You should've bought it Tuesday!"  Well, not quite as blatant, but that was pretty much how it ended up.

See, I wouldn't even have too many issues with this if it was a one-time stupid response.  Apparently, if you disagree with her, it's a Big Deal.  For example, she said so herself that if you (her fan) don't like the way she promotes her writing 24/7, you should write and get published and do better.  Is that a threat or encouragement, because I'm really determined to take her up on that.

Let's just say, I couldn't get into either series she wrote, and now I'm not even going to bother.

She's not the only author who gets entitled like this.  Another writer, whose series I sort of liked, was rude to people who asked her questions about the business of writing.  Like, her answers was that the only way to do it right was do it the way she did it.  Yeah, no.  The thing is, everyone is going to have a bad day and maybe come across nastier than they intended.  It happens.  But it seems like the bigger a writer gets, the bigger their ego gets.

When I become published and blow up big, I'll do better.

entitled, blah, i'll do better, fiction, writing, writers, rant
