I - once again - find myself in that spot where I feel like I have so much I want to say, but am struggling with how to get it all out in an organized fashion. If I had interesting things to say, I doubt this would be an issue…but there you have it.
This year’s trip to D.C. was a little less eventful than last year’s (no sightseeing, no baseball games, no almost-dying-from-heat-stroke situations, no C. Brett sleepovers, no boy scouts…) but I suppose that isn’t such a horrible thing. The conference itself went fine and I think our presentations went okay. My boss decided that taking his vacation time the two weeks or so before the conference (thus leaving a bulk of the presentation work to me) was a good idea and with working both camps during the week/weekends leading up to the conference, I felt a little ill prepared.
C. Brett and I went out for drinks on Wednesday night. We went to a bar that was a couple of blocks down from my hotel. It was pretty busy when we got there but the place was fairly vacant when we were ready to leave. The girl who was working the bar came over and talked to us for a short bit as we were leaving. She asked how we knew each other and asked if we were “together.” C. Brett (a little too) adamantly explained that we were not “together” and she responded how she thought I looked young - she said 12, to be exact - and that struck her as odd when we walked in together. During last year’s trip, I had a security guard at O’Hare ask me if I had lost my parents so I guess it could have been worse.
I was in D.C. when the
latest terrorism scare occurred but I didn’t have too many issues on my flights back. The only problem with any of the travels back from D.C. was being seated behind a baby that cried non-stop for basically the entire duration of the flight from D.C. to Cinicinnati. But I guess I’ll have to wait for the quiet, cushy flights until I
faux-kill someone.
I got back home late Friday night and left early Saturday morning for Marsha and Seth’s wedding. Due to the timing of it, I can’t say I was really into the whole wedding/guestbook attendant thing this time around but the ceremony was lovely and the music at the reception was passable.
Sadly enough, that basically brings us up to date (up to this weekend, anyways). I finally got to see
Little Miss Sunshine this weekend. I’ve been looking forward to it for some time and I have had to endure other people’s reviews while I patiently wait for it to makes it way to Des Moines. I was going to check it out last weekend but I couldn’t find anyone willing to go along with me. Steve had seemed willing to go when I talked to him about it a couple of weeks ago but it turns out he wasn’t as willing to go as previously thought. Neither Jody or Amanda seemed all that interested when I brought it up to them so I braved it alone. I liked the movie a whole lot, but it was much more depressing than I had anticipated. This isn’t to say I didn’t laugh at all but a lot of it left me feeling….sad. That doesn’t detract from it being an amazing movie, and I highly recommend seeing it - stat.
While I am on the subject of this weekend (and
Steve Carell), I should mention that I sucked in to the Emmy’s on Sunday. I was incredibly excited that Conan was hosting this year and he did an absolutely flawless job. If you think my opinion veers to the biased side, you can check out his opening
here (it is in two parts - the first part is all of the prerecorded stuff, and the second part is his monologue) and confirm my assessment as fact. I was most excited about
The Daily Show and
Office wins, but I wouldn't have minded some more
Arrested Development love.
This upcoming weekend is another notch in the 2006: Get Hitched or Die Tryin’ belt. - Erin and Matt’s wedding. This will also mark my third go as a guestbook attendant since June (to be technical, I am only a co-attendant as Erin and Matt felt it necessary to add C. Brett to job). I was simply not going to go out of protest but then she told that there was going to be harp player during the ceremony. I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t real motivation for me making the trip.
I'll take my leave now that I have you sufficiently bored. I could make a million and one promises to not be so lax when it comes to the LiveJournal, but I am sure anyone reading it likes it that way.
Edit: The link to Conan's opening is fixed. Now - watch it! Even if it is for the 100th time!
