I'm as calm as a fruit stand in New York (and maybe as strange)

I refuse to start out by whining how it took me an hour to get to work this morning. It typically takes me 15 minutes. It was not the best way to start off my week. I'm really not going to whine about it, though...

Last week’s excursion to Zzz Records was a let down. I was disappointed with their supply and especially with their supply of anything new-ish (Cat Power? Mates of State?) I couldn’t bring myself to walk out empty-handed, so I ditched the idea of finding something I really wanted and went purely on cover-art aesthetic. I would rattle of titles for you but I’d like to hold on to whatever cool points I may have at this point. After a period of time of searching and on the verge of giving up completely, I stumbled upon New Order’s “Round and Round” single on vinyl. I discovered later, after playing the “Guess the Single based on the Cover Art!” game with beatboxrawk, that the actual sleeve was from the “Fine Time” single. I went from pleased with the purchase to feeling even more disappointed. I believe a trip to Peeple's Music is in order now.

Dennetta and I attempted to make plans for Friday night but that didn’t pan out. She opted for karaoke with family. I was extended an invitation but after (unsuccessfully) trying to figure out where exactly the bar they were at was located, I decided to accept the fate of another lackluster Friday night at home.

The night got off to an interesting start when I stopped on my way to Craig's to pick up beer. I was walking down an aisle, on my way to check out, and was stopped in my tracks by a guy who worked in the store. He asked me if I needed help finding anything and then asked if he knew me (I looked familiar to him, apparently). He asked for my number after trying to engage me in ridiculous conversation for five minutes or so. Now here’s the funny part: I gave him my number! I blame my own stupidity and inability to say, “No.” Once I realized what I had done, I went in to a type of panic…How am I to avoid this guy without being harsh? beatboxrawk suggested I tell him I’m involved and Jody suggested I just don't answer the phone when he calls. Any additional ideas/advice?

I had a nice time at Craig's shindig. I didn't stay all that long but I was able to catch with a small group of Simpson people I haven't seen in quite some time (Matt, Ben, Kayla, Erica, Lindsey, and ecoraider). I'm sad Craig has fled to the East Coast but I also couldn't be more excited for him. I think he'll be alot happier there.

I was perusing Entertainment Weekly’s 10 Must-See Summer Movie list (which you can see here) and was beyond happy to see Little Miss Sunshine made the cut at #6. My love for Steve Carell has been referenced a handful of times and I am dying to see how his first “serious” role goes over. The trailer has been up herefor awhile now and I recommend you give it a look. I’m also happy to see Clerks II on the list….even if it means suffering through some Rosario Dawson.

I’m not surprised that The Da Vinci Code was #1 on the list with all the controversy surrounding it. I’m all for protesting this film, but only because the base material is incredibly weak. I’ll never understand why religious groups get up in arms over things that purportedly “challenge” their respective faith. Isn’t that what faith is all about - perseverance of your beliefs through testing? Besides, I doubt anyone will be going to latest Tom Hanks epic looking for a religious epiphany.

While I am on the subject of “not getting it,” I’d like to direct your attention to Stephen Colbert’s speech at the White House Correspondents’ annual dinner. I love the crowd's response because you can tell there are quite a few people who either don't get Colbert's act or are just surprised at how far he is taking it.

Wow. George W. Bush. To be this close to the man. I feel as if I'm dreaming. Somebody pinch me. You know what? I'm a pretty sound sleeper. That may not be enough. Somebody shoot me in the face.

To end on a depressing note:

Let me give you a bit of a history lesson. When I was younger, various individuals called me Curly Sue due to my curly hair and supposed resemblance to Alisan Porter. Fast forward 15 years, and I find this while perusing ohnotheydidnt. It would appear that she is hot now. On the count of 3, I'd like you to join me in saying, "Fuck you, genetics!" Ready?
