The week was somewhat hectic, but yet uneventful at the same time. Don't ask me how this is possible, because I am thinking that it can only work that way for me. I can be busy and all that, and STILL come off as the most boring person of all time.
Bookshopping earlier in the week was successful. I picked up Tobias Wolfe's Old School and Bret Easton Ellis's Lunar Park. I haven't gotten too far in to Lunar Park but it is a pretty bizzare read. Parts of it are apparenty biographical and parts are fiction, and it is written in a slightly different style than his other works. It is still good, though. I read that his next book will be a follow-up to Less than Zero.
In spite of some drama around yesterday's meeting, work was pretty efficient this weekend. The meeting Friday night went quickly AND I even got a Target gift card out of the deal. On second thought - does a Target giftcard actually make up for having a meeting on Friday night? I'll file that under 'doubtful' for the time being. Ha. It turns out we have our next meeting on my birthday. I really didn't want it to work out that way, but everyone else has committments and I would feel bad for using my birthday as a reason to impose on anyone else's schedule. However, the meeting won't go past 3:00PM and I don't think there is anything in the rules about going to meetings hungover so I don't think it will interfere with any plans. That is, if there ends up being plans.
John Kerry was in town today, speaking on behalf of two groups (Democratic Activists Women's Network (?) and Women for a Stronger America), and I decided to go and listen since I was interested in what they had to say concerning women's role in government and the lack thereof in Iowa. Governor Vilsack was there as well, along with his wife, and all three of them spoke about the need of progressive females as elected officials. They also recognized a number of women who are currently campaigning for legislature/governor/etc. It was admittedly pretty standard fair for a "political lecture," but I think it is an issue that (especially in Iowa) seems to be overlooked consistently. The venue was incredibly packed and I was thankful I got there earlier enough to get a seat where I could actually SEE. I was surprised I didn't know anyone there, working for the state and all, but the people I ended up sitting with were very nice.
I really wanted to see
Proof this weekend, but it didn't happen. Maybe this week? There's that, and
The Baxter is playing here as well. I should probably get tickets to Angels in America this week, too.
