[utapuri] this game is crazier than I thought

I've started playing UtaPuri! Aiming for Masato, and I've cleared two months in the game so far... seems pretty short compared to the rest that I've been playing. In short, you go to a special school that trains its students to be composers or idols in one year and if you get picked at the end, you'll debut into the industry. Premise of the game is that the heroine, Nanami Haruka, aims to be a composer who can create beautiful music to heal the hearts of many (she's inspired by this idol called HAYATO whom she watches every morning). But in this school, a composer and a person who wants to be an idol must team up together to create THE song and if it gets selected, they debut! YAY!

Such a perfect scenario to cram in some shoujo moments too, right?
WRONG. Your insane headmaster (SHINING Saotome yes for srs that is his name) says while everyone must pair up, romance is totally forbidden and if you're caught, you're expelled. This man is voiced by Norio Wakamoto and is constantly on crack (makes his entrance by parachuting onstage) and I am sure he just set that rule so he can laugh at the misery of his students. =w=;

The gameplay seems rather simple so far, you get to choose who you want to team up with at the beginning (A Class only for first playthrough) and I chose Masato.

School term begins, and you get sorted into the A Class. Your homeroom teacher is the adorable Ringo-sensei (okama Nakamura haha he does a FABULOUS job voicing Ringo!) and everyone ends up as your classmates. The beginning of the game really made me laugh though, my god the scenarios she met the A Class guys was SO shoujo I wanted to die. On the way to school on the train, this pervo old man tried to feel up Haruka's skirt but Ootoya was standing there and came to save the day. Mind you, Haruka apparently has no presence so she was really shocked when Ootoya rescued her. When the train reached her school, she stammered a thank you to him and fled (but her handkerchief got left behind).

As she was crossing the school field, she ran headfirst into Masato and his butler (who looks like this frumpy old uncle) Jii-san threw a hissy fit, but Masato coldly asked her if she was alright and used his tie to wrap her grazed knee lol. She finally made it in time for orientation, in which Shining Saotome makes a grand entrance by parachuting and crashing onstage and explaining what they have to do. D; As his speech ends, Haruka almost faints *BUT* Natsuki is there to catch her! ffff Every time I look at Natsuki I feel like scoffing, "eh, you wolf in sheep's clothing GO AWAY" and then they both introduce themselves.

Back in class, everyone gets acquainted with one another and go "LET'S BE FRIENDS 8D" but Masato kind of stands awkwardly in one corner, and as he was about to say "okay", Jii-san barges in and splutters stuff and that his widdle Masato-dono should not simply befriend commoners and etc and Masato's all exasperated lol. I pity the poor boy; Jii-san was sent to enroll in his school as a composer to try and keep a watchful eye over his precious bocchama :DD;; Ringo-sensei then comes in, plays a little game and everyone gets paired up with one another!

Ringo-sensei overhears Haruka asking Masato what he plays and that it's the piano, so Ringo asks him to perform and Masato agrees. As he was about to sit down on the piano stool, Jii-san rushes in AGAIN and goes "NO YOUNG MASTER YOU CANNOT SIMPLY USE ANY LOW GRADE PIANO YOU MUST ONLY USE THE HIJIRIKAWA HOUSEHOLD'S--" and there is this RUMBLING from the ground, in which a piano emerges from it. =____=;;; Masato's like "JII-SAN I AM IN SCHOOL AND THERE ARE RULES I HAVE TO COMPLY BY KTHXBYE" and a dejected Jii-san goes okayyyy and a group of men in black suits hurry in to bring the piano away wtf. Neways Masato performs and Haruka sort of falls in love with the calming feel that his playing gives her lol. End the first month of the game!

Masato sees Haruka making notes while listening to music and asks her what she's doing, and apparently she's working on the song that she's composing for him to play (and sing) but isn't too sure if it's any good. Masato asks if he could listen and she lets him, and after awhile Masato says that her songs give people this sense of tranquility and let's them feel all that's in the world. Haruka is glad and suddenly out of nowhere, the loudspeaker blares and Shining Saotome demands that everyone in the school assemble at the stage as he's got this Event From Hell lined up for them. (it really WAS called the event from hell ok)

Turns out that this is THE event of the year for their school, and composers/idols have to team up with their chosen partners to find the "Proof of an Idol" within their school compounds. The catch is that one person has to お姫様抱っこ/carry the other person in his arms THROUGHOUT the entire course and can NOT let go. Talk about insane physical endurance! Ootoya then pipes up and complains that there's not enough girls in the school, to which Shining goes "FEH" and retorts, saying that the boys should always act knightly in all situations and asks Ringo-sensei and Ryuu-sensei to demonstrate lol (Haruka says that when they did so, it looked like an A+ scene out of a romance flick HAHAAAHA)

Ootoya is unlucky enough to be carried by Shining himself, and Masato's like "Ootoya... don't die" before he goes and you can hear Ootoya wailing down the corridors. Masato and Haruka begin, and after asking Haruka if she's okay with this (they're both embarrassed) and she says yes, they begin. The crash course involves booby traps, trapdoors, quiz solving, arrows shooting out of walls (YES. IN A SCHOOL TO TRAIN POP IDOLS)... you name it. 8D Our main duo plough on, but there's one part where Shining and Ootoya CRASH THROUGH THE WINDOWS like Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 and glass shatters, in which Haruka uses her hands to shield her face and Masato's. After Shining/Ootoya left, they regain composure but Masato's all like "!!!! THERE IS BLOOD DRIPPING FROM YOUR FINGERS DDDDD8"

I find Masato REALLY REALLY cute because he shows that he cares, although in a very quiet and stoic way. :D Haruka protests that she's ok and that they should carry on because there's not much time left, but Masato insists and brings her to a room to bandage her fingers 'cause all the way while he carried her there, he was saying that she should treasure those hands of hers more as they'll be the hands that'll create music that will win over the world (trust me he says the most insane romantic things with a straight :| face and wonders why the hell is Haruka blushing like a tomato as he says that). Previously, the other things he said were along the lines of "I can't take my eyes off you because I can't stop worrying about you"... lol So uh, you get this CG of him bandaging her hand and when he's done, he actually brings it to his lips and gives it a soft kiss and Haruka's like "!?!?!?! ANOOOOOOOOOO" and Masato casually goes, "WHOOPS SORRY it's something I keep doing to my younger sis when she gets hurt, sort of like a good luck charm to make it recover quickly" in his sleepy voice. D; D; D;

Haruka asks about his sister, but Masato changes topic (AHA PLOT POINT! He probably entered the school for his sis or something) and they continue on. Masato then kicks this door down after choosing the right path and crouches for a bit out of fatigue, and Haruka takes out her handkerchief to wipe off the sweat on his face awwwwwww. They enter this dark room in which Masato FREEZES ALL OVER cause there are bugs EVERYWHERE, and Haruka asks if he's afraid of bugs and he waves it off uncomfortably (which means he is laa lol). Haruka tells him that she'll open the bug-infested box where the Proof is, and when they grabbed the item they got the hell outta that room and bumped into Shining outside.

They asked him if the mic that they picked up was the only thing, and Shining said "no". The proof is that you both worked hard and deepened your bond through teamwork to get to that goal, and from this they'll learn how to work better together and hopefully create the best piece of work in the future. Masato stones for a bit then laughs, and this chapter ends with Haruka and Masato going "let's do our best! 8D" (Masato kind of lightens up at the end of this chapter bawwww).

To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this game because I heard that the CGs were kind of subpar compared to a lot of games, but it totally makes up for it in terms of story and crack so far which is really enjoyable! Gonna play more later for sure <333
