Abortion ban closer in Nicaragua A Nicaraguan parliamentary committee has approved draft legislation to ban all abortions, including in cases where the mother's life is at risk.
. . .
At present, abortion is only permitted in Nicaragua in instances where the life of the mother is in danger.
. . .
Orlando Tardencilla, one of the members of the sub-committee which proposed the bill, said: "Unless abortion is made a crime, then people can simply come out and say: 'I have the right to an abortion, this is my body and I can decide.'
"That's like saying: 'I'm allowed to commit murder because these hands are mine, this gun is mine.'"
After all... only being able to have one when your life is at risk isn't exactly of much use anyways. The only thing worse in this world than losing a child is allowing it's mother to live! Wait, doesn't the Catholic church have some rule against women being pregnant at all? I swear it must be in there somewhere. In other news the Nicaraguan parliament also proposed a ban on hands because they could be used to strangle or otherwise bludgeon to death and a similar ban on scissors for their tendency to make people run with them.
Sarcasm aside I hope you all catch the irony in their argument to ban all abortions to prevent "murder" when in fact they are the ones promoting murder. As above the only abortions that are legal currently are those that would protect the mother from dying. Denying them proper medical care is no better than murder itself and it's unfortunate their god isn't real enough to punish them for believing such things. Despite the relative geographical detachment it is important we all remember even here in the US this happens. The entirely relevant negligent homicide statutes are still no match for cults like the Christian Scientists who get away with murder in the name of faith.
