i just had a little spanish test, it was most exciting. I got to write sentences in spanish, translate sentences into spanish, even fake the writing of a postcard in spanish. Wow, i feel so utterly empowered! Okay, all irony aside, i do quite like this class. The teacher is pretty cool, plus she's from Chile which just gets all the ticks in my books happening.. it's also in this class that i met Louis-Philippe and Noémie, which can only be a good thing!

I'm all leaf-turning-over these days. I've not smoked since Saturday night.. It's now Wednesday morning. Sunday was, i do believe, the first day i'd gone cigarette-free in at least a month, if not 3 or 4. So to still be going strong now, i'm pretty proud of myself. I've also stopped biting my nails, it's been about a week now. They're looking better, and hopefully i'll be able to keep it up. I have also changed my room arrangement around a little, my bed is now closer to the window with my orange chair/reading chair on the other side (mi silla esta a la derecha de mi cama). I'm a little more enclosed now, when i sleep, and that plus the fact i've been keeping more reasonable hours has led me to having much better sleeping and waking moments. It doesn't last all day, but i certainly feel healthier of a morning.

I took in take-two of the "Mk2 Découvertes" last night. An Iranian film by the name of "One Night", following one girl's toings and froings in and around Teheran during one particular night. She meets and takes a ride with three men, and we become thus privy to their three recent and not so recent pasts. It was really really really good. Silence, is such a precious thing. Nighttime too, is such a precious thing, and this film coordinates both brilliantly. Interesting points are raised, i won't get into it, but suffice to say it was a most pleasant experience. It was also really cool to practise my very very rudimentary farsi. Merci, Haeli Mamnum, Dochtala, Azzizam, Bale, .... choice!

I happened upon a most curious find three days ago. I was taking down the recycling, and as i opened one of the recycling bins, i noticed someone had thrown out some paperbacks. As curiosity took hold and i went into action, i discovered that someone had thrown out many paperbacks, many indeed, and that they were all in English and of varying qualities and natures. I sorted them out, all 150 or so of them, and kept a select few. Now my bookshelves are 50 books or so richer, and in time so shall my minnnndism. A few highlights are a hardback perhaps first edition of The Satanic Verses, a biography on Che Guevara (i'll finally be able to have a clearly articulated opinion on the matter), a few Saul Bellows and V.S Naipauls, Dubliners, a book on American fiction 1945-1970, and yeh... the list goes on!! It was Christmas in January!

In other news, musically, i'm swimming in joyful juices. Swayzak, The Mountain Goats, Nouvelle Vague, Hortense et son pied de biche, Modest Mouse, Devendra Banhart (Rejoicing in the hands of her)... it's all good, all good. Cat Power is coming to Paris in March... i might just have to investigate.

and now, it's time to go go go...
