I'm pretty sure I missed the birthday of
couchrules yesterday. I'm so sorry! I hope you had a great day. :)
I'm currently at work, without bosses, with the heater on (thankouthankyou), happily roaming the Internets because the third week of the month is always deathly quiet, and I have come across a few things to make me do a quick random fangirl roundup.
Duke, AGAIN
Now that the brackets have been set for the NCAA Tournament (icon looove - I needed something more generic because I'll be watching as many games as humanly possible - however, those are JJ's hands making that shot), the predictions are coming in from every writer/editor in the business. And the consensus? There is no consensus. This as wide-open a field as I've seen in a while, which should make for some exciting ballgames.
Duke was given the #1 overall seeding, which is quite an honor and honestly somewhat unexpected. Some think they'll go all the way, some think they won't get past the Sweet 16, so really, it's anyone's guess. But woot. In pouring over the articles from the ACC title game, this was my favorite little quote, from Josh McRoberts about the little non-fight that Greg got into with the BC player:
“I pulled Greg away just naturally to protect him,” McRoberts said. “I had a hold of him so he couldn’t do anything. I didn’t know what was going on. I thought (Hinnant) was coming after Greg, so I just grabbed him and held him away.”
Awww! I love that the freshmen already have so much love and devotion toward each other. That makes me so so happy. And I didn't even see JJ get a talkin' to on the bench by Chris Collins:
After a heated exchange with the assistant Chris Collins on the bench just under four minutes into the second half, Redick scored 16 points to lead Duke. "We're like brothers, so we're able to look each other in the eye and tell each other the truth at a moment's notice," Redick said, referring to Collins. "He knows how to push my buttons. I can't really go into what we said, but he pushed my buttons and got me going."
I always loved Chris when he was playing for us, and it's really nice to know that he has that kind of relationship with JJ. And just one pic from the game that I loved. I know a lot of people hate it when Duke slaps the floor, but it gives me chills every time they do it. It's like, "bring it on, we're ready" and it gets EVERYONE pumped up - the players, the fans - it's just amazing. ETA: WireImage is being a jerk and not loading for me, so I'll have to post that pic at another time. But it's JJ, slapping the floor, and it looks like a stupid picture unless you know what he's doing. heh.
Pearl Jam
In the new Rolling Stone, they highlight upcoming record releases for the Spring. Here's what they wrote up about the new PJ album:
BIG COMEBACK
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam (OUT May 2nd)
A couple of rock songs, a couple of ballads - it's not rocket science," says Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard about the band's new disc. Not that he wants to undersell the hard work the band put into its eighth studio album, and its first studio record for Clive Davis' J Records. Pearl Jam entered Seattle's Studio X in November 2004, each member armed with ideas. After whittling about thirty songs to sixteen working tracks, singer Eddie Vedder took the rough sketches and wrote lyrics for them. "That took a while," says Gossard, "but it was worth the wait. He wrote some beautiful lyrics for this record." The title, Pearl Jam, reflects the group's most collaborative effort yet: It produced this album together, along with Adam Kasper; each member will receive writing credits; and, for the first time ever, guitarist Mike McCready contributes lyrics, to the album closer, "Inside Job." gossard's two musical pieces, "Parachutes," an island-flavored beauty with acoustic guitars, a Wurlitzer and shifting time signatures, and "Life Wasted," which features a bridge reminiscent of Pink Floyd, are among the twelve or thirteen tracks that will make the final cut. "It feels like a new opportunity for us," says Gossard. "We're proud of the songs, and we think they have a chance to do a little better commercially." The boys are also bracing for a yearlong world tour, to kick off in late spring. "All of our new stuff is so much fun to play," says Gossard, on a break from rehearsing the album's first single, "Worldwide Suicide." "I can't wait."
Neither can I! Interesting that it took 8 albums before they had a self-titled product. That tells me that they're immensely proud of this record and that it really speaks for itself. I also think it's interesting that being more commercial is anywhere on their radar. I've always admired their approach to music, and that their commercial worth was never in the forefront of their minds. But I assume that it had to come into play when searching out a new label. And Clive may love music, but he loves music that sells even more. lol In any case, I'm shaking with excitement over this record.
Brokeback Mountain
In the same issue of Rolling Stone, Heath Ledger is on the cover and there's a really nice interview/article inside. One of the pull quotes they used was awesome:
On his lip-locking with co-star Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback Mountain: "It wasn't the butt of a mule. I was kissing a human being with a soul."
I'll be over here waiting for the first Jake icon with "Not the butt of a mule" text.
Stargate SG1
I won't even front. I'm a giddy little 12 year old fangirl over this and I'm pretty sure most of my sentences below are poorly constructed and include words that don't really exist and yes, it's only slightly embarrassing.
Okay, so I don't know if this is spoilery. Like, I almost don't want to warn people because I'm so disturbingly happy and excited about things that I'd rather you read anyway. But it might be too spoilery for you. It includes stuff I posted a couple of weeks ago, so if you read that, you're good to go here. Shanks talks about season 10, but in very broad strokes, and I won't even mention the specific stuff. But this does require that you're at least aware of the cast situation in season 9 (and I'm not going to say what!)
Ahem.
Sooo... there's this new interview with Michael Shanks (danieljacksonomghee!) that was done, I think, just over the weekend. And in it they ask him stupid stuff about their Women of Sci Fi calendar and whatever, blah blah. But then they ask him (this is an audio interview, btw, so thank GOD because I could listen to his beautiful voice for the rest of my life) about season 10, and how he's crossing over to Atlantis and how cool it is and how it's really tying it back into the SG1 story and they were careful not to drop something onto Atlantis and leave it for them to figure out and all that. He also talked about the dynamics between the new (Atlantis) and the old (Daniel!) and how interesting it was going to be (they're filming it right now and I officially cannot wait). So yeah, there's that. Nothing major there, but then he was asked about the show's 200th episode.
No, stop for a second and take that in. 200th episode. That's a crapload of shows. Wow.
Okay, so they ask him about it and he says that it's going to be really different than the usual episodes, and not totally unlike "Wormhole X-Treme!" which was their 100th episode back in season 5. He says they're sure to poke fun at themselves, but that the audience is in on the joke the entire time. And OMGI'MSOEXCITED, I loved Wormhole X-Treme to pieces! Pieces, I tell you! So then he says that it could see the return of a face that we haven't seen "in some time." And I gulped and squeaked and squealed at the same time because I want it to be Jack so much. SO SO much. And I know that people really WANT it to be Jack, hi myself included, because I just want to SEE him again and I want him to be my Jack of old and I want to love him again and it's not that I don't like Mitchell because I do, very much so, but I miss Jack like whoa and it would be awesome to see him again, even in some weird capacity. Maybe it'll be an episode about a Stargate convention and RDA could be all, "WTF, you think I'm gonna go hang out with those nutjobs?" bahaha because they are, that fandom, kinda wacky. Yes.
God, with my luck it'll be someone like.. Pete. lol
ANYWAY. That's really all he said. Except he called Chris Judge a complete moron and I love that he has the ability to call a man 12x his size a moron and get away with it. Yes. Okay, that's all. He just turned me into a jabbering fangirl and gah, I can't wait for season 10. It may not be the omg best show on TV, but it's my favorite, it is! With or without Jack, because Daniel, and Teal'c, and Sam, they're my little scifi family and I love them SO!
sigh.
And can I talk about Michael Shanks for a second? Or Shankster as they like to call him? Gawd, could there be a more adorable ridiculous nickname? Because I'm pretty sure my 12 year old crush is on his character, but I really have to say that the more I hear and read about Shanks, the more I adore him. I love how he talks about Stargate, because he really gets why people love it. He talks like he's himself a fan, and that makes me nutty in a good way. I like that after the big drama in season 5, he's come back and appreciative of the job and supportive of the decisions now, even if they suck. I adore how he talks about his wife, how he talks about Chris Judge, how he talks about RDA (aww he misses Rick's humor! and creative input!), and how he can make a cheesy Sci Fi calendar sound so important. And for some reason, just hearing him utter the word "domain" turned my geeky heart all aflutter.
lovelovelovelovelove. I don't care what anyone says about anything else ever because danieljacksonandmichaelshanks is/are becoming my favorite person/people in the whole wide world.
Well, you know, until *NSYNC does their reunion tour, and then I'm their bitch again. Gladly. :)
*NSYNC-ly things
Sooo.. Lance has a big secret coming out in April or May or something like that? Something that's the coolest/best/most exciting/neatest/whatever thing he's ever done? You have to go read his most recent Myspace post to know what I'm talking about. He had to sign a non-disclosure agreement for it, whatever it is. wtf, Bass? Are you the new Bachelor or something? Oh, maybe he could be the Big Gay Bachelor! That would be neat. (You can go join
nsyncer_myspace to read what's up.) Hey,
joeysdramaqueen? I just noticed that the banner for that community says "NSYNER MYSPACE" What's up with the JC hate, man? ;)
Speaking of JC - hey, whassup? Album? mkay.
Justin - ditto.
In other news, my email seems to be working again, more or less. It seems that some settings that had been a certain way for lord knows how long all of a sudden stopped working. Eh. But I took this as an opportunity to try out Firefox's version of Outlook Express, and it's called Thunderbird or something, which is an infinitely cooler name than.. Outlook Express. And it's pretty much the same thing, so I'm happy with it.
I installed some kickass Firefox extensions also. My favorite, which is purely aesthetic, is that each tab turns a different color. When I have many tabs open it's like this little rainbow of Internets pit stops. Love. I also got one that allows me to download any embedded media on webpages. All in all, Firefox is the f'n BOMB. I heart it.
From eyeballs to entrails, my sweet.
