Frankie J Throwing Curves With JC Chasez
10.24.2005
If you thought you had Frankie J pegged, think again. The charismatic R&B crooner is about to pitch a few curve balls.
"I've been working with a few different people," the Tijuana, Mexico-born singer said. "I'm actually on my way to Atlanta to do a song with JC Chasez for his new record. I know his manager through a mutual friend. He told me JC was working on some new stuff, so we met up for lunch one day to talk business and we just clicked."
The as-yet-untitled track will be penned by Frankie, Chasez and songwriter Sean Garrett (Aaliyah, Usher, Ricky Martin), and it will be produced by Timbaland, who has already laid down several tracks for Chasez's sophomore solo effort due out next year (see "JC Chasez Promises Next Solo Outing Will Be Less Schizophrenic").
"I've heard some of JC's stuff and it's very different," Frankie said. "He's not really following the sound of what's popular on radio today, which is good because he's not trying to be anyone else. He just wants to be JC. I'm not sure what to expect when I go in, but I know I'm looking forward to what comes out of it."
Damn, JC's working with half the Western world on his record. And it STILL doesn't sound like anything on radio today. LOL. But.. several tracks from Tim? Interesting! I wonder if it's true.

Justin's Hometown Reunion
October 24, 2005
Singing heartthrob JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE returned to his hometown of Memphis this weekend, with his mother and girlfriend CAMERON DIAZ at his side, to be honored at Saturday's Recording Academy Honors™, presented by The Recording Academy®'s Memphis Chapter.
KEVIN FRAZIER caught up with a humbled Justin, who said he was happy to be home -- and spend this time with Cameron: "We're lucky to get to spend a lot of time together, that's always a blessing."
Justin's proud mom LYNN said having her star son home was great -- but that he did "disrupt" the normal routine! The other problem? His dogs! "The biggest problem is he has two big dogs and I have two little dogs and they're intimidated -- but we'll work it out," she laughed.
Honorees at the gala included Memphis native Timberlake, 'Hustle & Flow' screenwriter/director CRAIG BREWER, seminal Stax Records songwriting/producing team ISAAC HAYES and DAVID PORTER, as well as the first African-American programmed radio outlet, WDIA.
Oscar®-winner MORGAN FREEMAN and rocker LISA MARIE PRESLEY were also in attendance, as special presenters. Other presenters included legendary producers JIMMY JAM and TERRY LICKONA.
The event featured inspired performances by classic Staxx recording artists SOUL CHILDREN, rapper AL KAPONE, soul band BO-KEYS and WILLIAM BELL.
The Honors award is the highest honor that an Academy Chapter can bestow, and its purpose is to recognize individuals that have contributed significantly to the Memphis music scene and the city's community in general.
All of the money raised from the event will go to the MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund, which is pledging one million dollars of charitable aid to those in the music industry who have been displaced by the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina.

'N Sync, "Greatest Hits" (Jive)
By CHRISTY LEMIRE, AP Entertainment Writer Mon Oct 24,10:19 AM ET
Ah, the giddy boy-band heyday of the late 1990s - don't you miss it? The harmony ... the choreography ... the white boys in cornrows?
Yeah, me neither.
Regardless, 'N Sync has released a greatest hits disc. And even though it wasn't that long ago, let's just say early 'N Sync sounds a bit tinny and dated. Because truly, they have evolved as artists. Puberty will do that.
The appropriately titled "Greatest Hits" is heavy on the old-school stuff. Four of the 12 songs are from their 1998 self-titled debut album: the incessantly perky "I Want You Back" and "Tearin' Up My Heart," and the slow jamz "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You" and "I Drive Myself Crazy." One boy-band ballad, though, is as interchangeable and non-threatening as another. They may as well be the Backstreet Boys and take over the adult contemporary chart.
Three others are from 2000's "No Strings Attached" - "Bye Bye Bye" (which is still an insanely catchy song), "It's Gonna Be Me" (the last word of which de facto frontman Justin Timberlake always pronounced like "may") and "This I Promise You."
All of these sound cheesy and overproduced compared to their later songs from "Celebrity," which marked the beginning of Justin and JC Chasez's singer-songwriter phase as well as the apparent beginning of the end of 'N Sync, with the members quickly branching out into "solo projects."
Sadly, "Celebrity" only has three entries here: "Pop," "Girlfriend" and "Gone" (far and away the greatest 'N Sync song ever - soulful, passionate, wistful, with a gorgeously shot black-and-white video). And of those, the version of "Girlfriend" is that annoying remix featuring Nelly.
I'm sorry, "Girlfriend" truly is one of the quintet's greatest hits, with its Jackson 5-esque bass line. Nelly has his charms and all, but here he just gets in the way.
Skip past the other two tracks: "I'll Never Stop," which previously hadn't been released in the United States but is virtually indistinguishable from "Tearin' Up My Heart," and that corny song with
Gloria Estefan from the Meryl Streep movie "Music of the Heart."
Only if you're longing for the innocence of your teen years will you want this entire album. Otherwise, just stick with "Celebrity," which in retrospect is looking better all the time - and which you probably already have in your iPod anyway. It's OK to admit it.
Unfortunately, because it's AP, that same review is being printed everywhere.

Timberlake Defends Spears in Photo Flap
Mon Oct 24, 3:48 PM ET
NEW YORK - Justin Timberlake, who once told ex-girlfriend Britney Spears to "Cry Me a River," is coming to her defense.
Photos of Spears, her husband, Kevin Federline, and the couple's infant son were published online Friday, but were taken down within hours after her record label, Jive Records, issued a statement threatening legal action.
"When a person like her, who's obviously a sweet person, is having their first child, it's like, `leave the girl alone,'" Timberlake told "Access Hollywood" in an interview to air Monday. Excerpts were released in advance.
"I do think that's crossing the line," the 24-year-old singer said. "That's her baby and those are her baby pictures."
The pictures, taken in a private photo shoot, were allegedly stolen. Spears reportedly has been negotiating to sell them to a magazine.
The Web site http://www.tangiblebrit.com, which was the first to post the photos, withdrew them. A message on the Web site says: "To Britney, Kevin, Sean, Jive Records, SonyBMG and anyone else I have affected by this, I am deeply sorry for any pain I have caused you."
Spears' baby, who was born Sept. 14, hasn't been seen in public, nor has his name been announced, though reports say it is Sean Preston Federline.
The baby is the first child for the 23-year-old pop star and Federline, 27, who has two children with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson.
After his breakup with Spears in 2002, Timberlake was viewed as parodying her in the video for his hit "Cry Me a River" from his first solo album, "Justified."
Timberlake has dated Cameron Diaz since 2003.
*claps* Well done, Justin.
