”I don’t understand… Why is it that I can’t be in your game?” Hizumi said quiet confused.

“Because this game is only for Zero, Tsukasa and me. Go find another one to play with.” Karyu didn’t even looked at him, before turning around against the others and commanded them to walk away.

“But I don’t know anyone else in this kindergarten” Hizumi cried, but at that point had the three boys already found something else to entertain themselves with and did not pay attention to the lonely five year old, that felt his world were about to fell apart.

“Well, I don’t want to play with you either!” Hizumi shouted and turned around, while he did his very best in order to keep the tears from leaving his eyes. If they didn’t want to play with him, then he would just find some other friends. The only question was how?

He had never been good at making friends and until now, Karyu, Tsukasa and Zero had been his only friends in this kindergarten. Every time he had tried to talk to one of the other kids, he had always failed. He was too shy to say anything and the other kids didn’t seem interested in talking to him, so it was hard to make new friends, and the security of Karyu, Tsukasa and Zero had made him believe, that he would never need to find other friends.

But everything was different now. All because of that stupid Karyu! He always acted like he was the leader. Decided what they should play, how they should play and apparently who was allowed to play. “I’ll never play with him again!” Hizumi thought, but remembered that without Karyu, he wouldn’t be able to play with Tsukasa and Zero either.

The playground was gigantic and alone it seemed even bigger than normal. Kids were running everywhere playing and having fun. Hizumi wondered if he could join some of the boys that played soccer. “Well, I can at least try” He said to himself and walked up to the boy who was the goalkeeper. He didn’t notice Hizumi at all, but was very concentrated on the game.

“May I join you?” It would have been hard to hear what he said, even if the goalkeeper had stood right beside him, so of course he didn’t heard a word of what the shy boy had said. Hizumi tried yet again a little higher this time, and the goalkeeper actually looked at him. “No, we’re already enough. Go away, you’re disturbing the game!”

It felt like a punch in the stomach, but he refused to let it show. Instead he walked silently away, ashamed that he even had tried asking such a stupid question.

The only place, Hizumi knew, he could be alone, was the room where all the kids left their jackets and bags. The room was peaceful and Hizumi sat in a corner hidden away from suddenly interrupters. “I don’t need friends! I’m okay by myself.” The tears pressed hardly against his eyelids and he couldn’t ignore it anymore. He was sobbing and shaking, as he repeated “I’m okay by myself” again and again, but then he spotted something. Something black and white. It was in the opposite corner, this unknown object demanded his attention, and even though he hadn’t stopped crying yet, he went to see, what it was. The mysteries object turned out to be a stuffed cow.

“Are you also alone?” Hizumi asked and took it up. Its eyes seemed to warm, almost alive. Like it was trying to tell him, that it would be his friend.

“What is your name?” he asked and held the cow carefully as it had actually been alive. “You look like a Karubi. May I call you that?” The warm eyes didn’t seemed rejecting, so Hizumi decided that Karubi should be his name.

Together with Karubi, he spent hours that morning. They played until it was time for a nap and even then Karubi stayed with him. It was a little easier to fall asleep, when you have a friend, you can hug tightly.

It was at that time Karyu and the others noticed Hizumi’s new friend.

“He’s holding something, a stuffed animal I think” Zero said, looking nervously from Hizumi and back to Karyu. He knew this wasn’t good.

“So he think, he can just makes friend with some else without my permission?”

“Then take his new friend away from him?” Tsukasa was already lying down, too tired for the drama that seemed to come up.

Karyu smiled. “That actually a really good idea”

“No, what are you doing? Give him back to me!” Hizumi was pressed against the wall by Zero and Tsukasa. Karyu held in his hands Karubi, like he was a pile of trash. “He even smells” Karyu claimed with an evil smile. “I know just what he needs! Zero, Tsukasa, follow him with Hizumi.”

“No, stop!” But fighting against them was impossible. If it only had been Zero, Hizumi would have had a chance of winning, but Tsukasa was stronger and he was the scariest of them, when he first got angry.

Hizumi realized they were heading towards the bathroom. “What are you doing? Why are we here?” He felt his chest was near bursting due to his fast heartbeat. What were they up to?

“Hizumi, Hizumi, Hizumi” Karyu smiled at him. “It’s your own fault. We’re only doing this, because we wanna help you.” He took Karubi and threw him into the toilet. The next few seconds felt like years, while Hizumi tried to understand, what just had been done. He felt and extreme rage rise inside of him. “Why had they done this? How could they do this and still call themselves his friends?” With all his power, he forced himself free from Tsukasa and Zero. The whole world went silent in a few seconds, when Hizumi punched Karyu in the head. The only noise was the sound of the tall boys falling towards the ground.

“I… I…” He said, confused by the fact, that he never had been hit before and the last person, he had thought would hit him, had been Hizumi.

“Get him up or me!” Hizumi said calmly, trying to control himself.

“Me?” Karyu’s voice was shaking a little and he probably wasn’t feeling so big and mighty at that moment.

“You threw him down there and you get him up again.” Karyu had a feeling, that he had do it.

“And wash him for me!”

“Here, all clean” Karyu handed over the poor cow to Hizumi, who couldn’t wrap his arms around him fast enough.
“We’re leaving. Are you coming?” The three other boys was about to leave the room and Hizumi run after them. Inside he felt proud of himself. Not only had he got a new friend all by himself, but he had also won against Karyu.
