In continuation of my new obsession with this amazing series. The main romance between Miaka and Tamohome, touched me and inspired this VERY long poem...
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Undying Love: An Ode to Miaka and Tamohome
A girl on the verge of womanhood
Beckoned by
The light of a phoenix
To save a dying nation
Unwelcome visitors
Corner the frightened damsel
There is no hope
Until her savior makes his move
Hair the color of the sea
Violet eyes boring into her own
Ancient script on his forehead
Could this be real?
She is the chosen one
From a prophecy long foretold
Brought to them from another world
To call upon the ancient gods
Warriors must be gathered
Seven to be sure
To summon the great beast
From whose call she was brought forth
Another side is revealed
Like a shadow over the sun
Her friend has now become her enemy
She has nowhere left to run
On this hopeless quest
Where demons lurk at every turn
Her champion is there
To caress her aching wounds
He is gentle and yet strong
Born of humble beginnings
A guardian sworn to protect her
A man dying to love her
A promise is made
In the depths of night
He surrenders himself
Anything to keep her safe
A spell is cast
All is forgotten
Eyes once full of love
Now dark and void of life
Run
All she can do is run
Her beloved is gone
She doesn't understand
Deep, flowing red
A shattering of body and heart
A wound inflicted by hatred
This is not the man she loved
At the height of the storm
When all might be lost
He returned to her
Resurrected by her love
The tale takes a vicious turn
Upon a desperate vow
A body once pure and whole
Is now tainted with shame and guilt
In the fire's glow
She feels unworthy of him
In his eyes
She is perfect
Another force has interfered
Tearing them apart
The forces of nature and law
Forbidding them from each other
But one law is stronger than these
And cannot surely be ignored
For in the light of the glowing stars
They pledge their lives once more
The warriors have traveled far
Through desert, forest, ice and snow
But to save one world
Into the priestess's they must go
A disaster meets their foreign eyes
Their enemies appear in strength
And a creature that had once been lost
Once again will rise
But a power lies forgotten
Bruised and bloodied from the fight
But the weakling girl they first met
Is now a woman engulfed in crimson light
Her lover is dead
Struck by the enemy's hand
But his love still embraces her
Like the circle of her wedding band
By their combined strength
And their desire for love and peace
The forces of darkness are defeated
And all oppression has ceased
The love that was destined
One neither heaven nor hell could break
But two worlds held them apart
A barrier they could not shake
Still the warrior made a vow
To cross all space and time
'To claim' he said
'What's all along been mine'
