So was anyone else annoyed by this?
March 22nd fanfiction.net Update:
We do not support dash or other character based section/scene markers. If you wish to create a separation in your chapter, please use the officially supported horizontal line feature in our document editor or in your favorite word program. Using unsupported section markers will only make your entries less compatible to future upgrades. You can create the horizontal lines in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice by typing 3 or 4 consecutive dash/hyphen keys and then hitting enter. The site will correctly recognize these scene breakers when you upload them.
It's not that I'm terribly irritated that they changed the rules. I've been on this site for the better part of seven years, and I'm used to them adding new features and taking old ones away (like that period of time when people couldn't do double-punctuation like "?!" Apparently you can do those again, but I'm so used to not doing them now that I just keep them out of my 'fics).
What's made me grit my teeth this time is that, instead of just changing it so that the site doesn't support character based scene markers in future chapters (which is what they usually do), they've gone back and deleted all of my old scene markers as well. Not even counting "Broken Wings" on my Tangerine Infinity account, that makes SEVENTY-SEVEN chapters that they expect me to go back and edit so that the scene markers are supported by their new program.
This rule was not in effect when I posted those chapters. I haven't done anything wrong, yet they still expect me to take the time and trouble to fit my ancient fanfics to their brand-new formats.
Well, I sent them an e-mail. I don't know if it'll do me any good, but we'll see.
So did this cause any other fist-shaking among fellow ff.net-users?
