Title: Sightless. Part 1/5.
Author:
sypherus_xiiiPairing: JunhyungxDongwoon
Rating: For now PG, with just one little curse word.
Summary: Having grown to live life accustomed to being unable to see, what happens to Junhyung as his usually dark world is slowly painted with the color of Dongwoon. This story is AU and Junhyung-centric.
It was the first time he heard him.
Car horns. Blaring as the traffic continued to congest into what Junhyung liked to lovingly call a clusterfuck. It didn't matter to him though as he was safe on the sidewalk. Somewhat safe. Heavy clicks of scattered footsteps on unforgiving pavement as people rushed about to catch a quick bite of lunch before returning to their grueling work. Ringing bells as people entered and left various shops only added to the tune of what he realized was the worst time of day to come out for a peaceful stroll to the corner store.
Fingers gripping securely onto the cane, he tapped the end of it from left to right, left to right, with each step he took. When he felt an uneven crack in the sidewalk, he made sure to avoid it with his next couple of steps. It was always like this. Dodging the business-minded people wrapped in their own wrathful worlds of work and money. Or even the careless school children who thought running around and kicking trash bins was fun. He had to beware of it all when he came out of the confinements of his apartment. But he was so used to it by now, that he never missed a beat to shoot curses at a shoulder bumping him, nearly knocking him off balance to the ground.
That's when it happened.
Feeling bodies curve around him, avoiding him, he suddenly felt an unnerving force collide right into him. He felt his small bag slip from his fingertips, falling to the ground. "Watch it, you idiot!" he yelled behind him, hoping the instigator heard him well enough to not do this the next time. Grumbling with heated annoyance, Junhyung now had to steady himself as he kneeled down, blindly reaching around for the bag of chips and can of coke that must've toppled out of his bag. He found the chips easy enough, putting it back into the bag. But the coke was a different story. Growling in frustration, he waddled forward, thoroughly searching the cement, even more displeased at his fingers running along the dirty loose gravels of the ground. He only hoped another asshole wouldn't be so kind as to step on his fingers.
"Are you looking for this?" he heard it. A voice piped up right ahead of him. Looking up, only seeing the blanket of darkness he had been succumbed to years ago, Junhyung's expression turned into confusion.
"Oh." Came that voice. Heh, he must've noticed then. It was obvious to anyone. If the walking stick in his hand didn't give it away, then the frosty blue in the midst of glistening white of his eyes would surely reveal it all.
"Is this your coke?" the voice asked again, and Junhyung's shoulders relaxed as he slowly pushed himself up to a stand, his cane in his palm as his bag dangled from the other.
"Yeah, it's mine." He reached out, feeling the cool surface of the can plop in his open palm as he took it. Setting it back in his bag, Junhyung knew the drill. Some generous soul would help him out for an instant, then continue on their way, crawling back into the folds of 'normal' life where they wouldn't have to deal with the fact people like him were out there.
But then he heard something else.
"What's your name?"
This caused Junhyung to stiffen in his spot. He stared ahead to where he presumed this stranger stood. Why would some guy off the street care to know his name? He must've appeared skeptical for the voice stumbled out sheepishly.
"I… I just wanted to know."
Lips pursing into a half smirk, Junhyung sighed out, "Yong Junhyung," only noting now that it'd been so long since he disclosed his name to someone he wasn't paying for aid.
"Oh. Mine's Son Dongwoon." The words came out with a softer ring. He could sense the uncertainty now hanging in the air. After listening to just voices for most of your life, he had learned to detect underlying emotions in them. After all, even if an expression could lie, a voice couldn't. Now Junhyung was expecting the person to move on and leave so he could revel in his good deed of the day of asking a blind man for his name. Yet again he was thrown off.
"I'm still on my lunch break, so I have some time before I have to go back. But um… would you like to go for coffee?"
Now he was the uncertain one. Surprise spiraled through all of his veins as he felt his legs lock. Since when was the last time he'd been asked to coffee? It wasn't like he crossed people every day who prostrated themselves at his feet pleading for his company. And what would he be doing instead? Going back to an empty apartment to enjoy his coke and chips as he listened to the radio.
….
"Sure."
End of Part 1.
Part 2. Don't ask me why I did blind!JunhyungxDongwoon. It just hit me so late at night I had to write it.
I was originally going to do this all in one big clump, but I thought it would be more interesting and alluring to place it into five different parts. It was also my first dip into writing Junwoon although I love love love the pairing.
Hope you enjoyed it!
