I have been one saying from the start that Democrats, though in the majority do not need to lock out the Republicans from office. I said at the time that while the Republicans screwed up our country in the last 8 years they do have some decent ideas and they will compromise with the Dems and we will find a good solution to problems that look at what is good for the country. I was completely wrong.
What has happened in the last 2 weeks, and the utter incompentence and stubbornness that the GOP has acted with has brought me to say that it's time to throw the GOP under the bus. I don't say it lightly, I frankly don't know if the Dems can actually run the country as I havn't heard any of their positions in the past 8 years because they have been so busy playing defence. But what I do know is that the GOP and conservative mantra of "SMALL GOVERNMENT IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER" is annoying, ignorant, and completely not merriting their current situation (which is one of uniform rejection by the vast american populace). Let me make something clear to the conservatives...YOU LOST. TWICE,. In 2 straight elections you not only lost seats in the senate, house, and the presidency, but you did it with numbers that have rarely been seen in this countries history. Which means 1 thing, your message of spending with no revenue generation, pro-buisness, anti-worker, pro-constitution-breaking has been found wanting. Your stragety doesn't work and frankly you suck at governing. So you don't get to define the terms of the stimulis bill, you dont get to say "do it my way or I take my ball and go home" because at this point everyone is begging you to go home. Your party is stuck in the 1950's and can't see past it's own party message to understand that the rules of the world have changed (this goes especially for foreign policy). So we have extended our hand in friendship to try to incorperate what few good ideas your party still has, but you shoved it right back in our face, so now it's time to make your party what it has been for the past 2 years and will continue to be---Irrelevent.
And on another note, you honestly DARE to say that capping saleries of people who's pay is 20 TIMES the average salery when their businesses are not able to stay afloat due to their terrible decisions is unconstitutional. Your going to invoke the constitution? You? The party that has for the past 8 years run roughshot over practically every amendment in the Bill of Rights? The ones that approved torture, external rendition(aka kidnapping foreign citizens and holding them without trial or charges), domestic wiretapping, illegal wars, systemic denial of rights to citizens, holding citizens without charging them, I could go on for about a day. So spare me your crying over some idiot's pay who's decisions destroyed our economy while he sat their making millions. So it's time for the Dems to take the proverbial stick and beat the republicans to death with it, or at least out of the nation's highest offices. The only question is will they do it?
[Added: also, Ronald Reagan was a terrible president. Stop trying to rewrite history]
