Nothing is ever new - merely forgotten

Very quick post about today's UK political story:

Private firms and charities should have a bigger role in helping people off benefit and into work

Wasn't this either a shit idea when David Cameron announced it in December 2005, or a good idea when David Cameron suggested it in December 2005 (depending on your political persuasion)?

Nice to see the ( Read more... )

I suspect it was a good idea when Cameron nicked it from charities that had been doing it for years and years already. E.g. Mencap pathway started in 1969.
Politicians fail again. ;)

its one of those things broadly speaking there are 3 sorts of people on benefit

Those that can't work,
those that want to Work, but can't find a Job,
Those that can work and don't want to Work.

Now the thing is you need to support those that can't work, Find those who want to work jobs and cut the support/Bully those who don't want to work till they have no choice.

However easier said then done.

Not sure if that would help unless it was "Are you a Terrorist Nazi Communist who can work and doesn't want to work"... then I think we've pinned it down.

New world order is just around the corner, mate.

I believe many companies have a large role in reducing unemployment. By supplying Jobs.

*sigh*

Infact as far as i can see it the opening of Call centres was largely to supply an area of work for those too vastly incompetent to do anything else.

Creating a minimum wage system to give a decent living wage and keeping benefits amongst the lowest in Europe has I think put all those who could and wanted to work, into work!

The problem is that lone parents, disabled, the long term sick and criminals are virtually all that's left.
The most workable solution is more affordable child care provision for single parents, without which we may have all the taxpayers we can get (unless we want to import some more).
