Since I have been writing more in my paper journal, I've been feeling like coming back to LJ. I miss having a regular outlet for more sustained interaction than is made possible by platforms like Facebook and Twitter

my actual team is the Capitals, but I'm a huge fan of the Pens & the Hawks as well as being v.v. fond of assorted players on other teams.

The Capitals!

I actually made a conscious decision to favor Boston, since that's where I'm from, but the Capitals were the first team to catch my eye. I used to see them on the tvs on the elliptical machines at my gym, totally by accident, and they were what got me interested in hockey again. The Caps seemed so earnestly working it on the ice! I was impressed. So they still have a special place in my heart, although I do not actually have any Capitals icons, sadly. So you get Bruins. :)

I live in Oregon, but fell in love with Ovi, Mike Green and Brooks Laich before I'd formally adopted another team (and since I was born in DC) opted for them - and I can't be sorry, even if we're not in the Final. they're an awesome team!

Awesome! Thank you. I actually came in to all of this because of the Pens. A friend with whom I've been following figure skating has become a huge hockey fan, especially a fan of Geno and Sid, and when she and I were at a skating event in Canada, I 'tagged along' to a Maple Leafs/Pens game and had an amazing time. And also quite quickly fell for Letang as a player.

This friend has probably never heard the words "slash" or "fandom," and yet proceeded to show me all sorts of NHL videos (helloooo, BHTV) that completely drew me in. Then I started looking at what fandom had been doing. Then I found the fic. Then I realized how much I loved watching the game live. Then local friends who like hockey pounced on this, and next thing I knew I was at an Islanders/Pens game.

So this has all happened quite quickly, as these things do. I adore Ovechkin and have to watch more Caps games!

the Pens are a very good reason to dive in - but there are so many other reasons to stay, imo *g*

I'm glad you're having fun (it's such a great fandom), and hopefully you will catch some Caps games next season
