I am now done with my college fencing career

Apr 04, 2006 17:17

after a VERY long weekend of fencing, I am done. No more college fencing for this kid. This weekend I went 17-11 as A slot Men's Epee. It was my best record but not enough to place into individuals. But overall, my record was outstanding compared to my blowup last year, and i was fencing harder people. I guess that's what happens when i am actually in shape and mentally prepared.

I am already looking back to the 3 years of club nationals i've fenced. In those 3 years, I've never received a medal nor made it into individuals. But as a team, we have been in the top 4 for men every year, and top 3 for 6-weapon team. Don't get me wrong, i would not trade team glory for individual glory for even a second. I just want to know that in the future, I will be remembered as a deciding factor to the team glory. I basically always wanted to be the unsung hero. I just hope in the future I am recognized, because my name will not be anywhere along the lines of Ben White, Pat Reardon, Steph Meyers, Leo Cook, Orin Mase, etc. They will be remembered by me and everyone else. They are the true heros who deserve every second of glory and attention.

I guess it's time to move on, it's best for me to walk into the sunset while no one is looking. For future members of UMASS fencing, remember: team first, individual second.

You only want to do what you think is right.
Close your eyes and then it's past;
Story of my life"
