Here is a post about nothing.
Today in animu class, we discussed the legality/ramifications/whatever of fansubs.
Discussing fansubs invariably combines two of my greatest loves in life-- debating and being wrong-- so class was pretty much quite satisfying. There's just something wondrously delightful about making rash and utterly baseless declarations ("Why, piracy's impact on the anime industry can be nothing but positive!"), particularly when no one else can really supply a completely evidenced counterargument because oh look! the industry hides all the real statistics, so I can say whatever the hell I want and you can't actually tell me I'm wrong!
Of course, since this took place in a college class where the students obviously watch stuff illegally and the prof shows fansubs during class, I guess everyone kinda sorta agreed. I have yet to decide whether this makes the experience any less enjoyable.
In other news, I have come to the conclusion that my life pretty much rocks. My classes are all easy and unworkyful; while everyone else is slaving over p-sets and getting stones and ulcers from staying up too late, IIIIII am getting 9 hours of sleep (11 on Sunday night). IIIIII pretty much just like go home and surf the internet all day when I really should be drawing. I kind of have this fear whenever I feel like my life is made of awesome (the last time was senior year, the time before that probably doesn't exist; maybe the occasional anime con) because I believe in eating the peas before the cake, and if my life is too much cake right now, surely the rest of my life will be all peas. And that's terrible. (So somehow making it all peas now would be A-OK.)
This is also the reason that I'm stuck watching old shit like Houshin Engi and Matantei Loki Ragnarok instead of the awesome new anime or the dramas I haven't finished yet. I'm afraid that someday I'll have finished all of the good anime in existence and my life will be meaningless, so I'll make myself watch stuff that isn't as good because SOMEDAY I will be able to watch the awesome stuff BEFORE IT RUNS OUT LOL. The world running out of good anime is pretty much my biggest fear ever.
