I have given Huseyin my notice. I will have no place to live very soon. I really hope I don't have to sleep on Nathan's couch, as I freeload there enough as it is

If you are really desperate for work, I've never heard of Blockbuster rejecting anyone. It's a crappy job, but you can work there with no commitment and the side benefits (free movies and new disgust for humanity) are pretty worthwhile. Anyway, if it's the worst work you ever do, your life isn't so bad. The pay isn't great, but it's not insulting. I've applied at some point to every employer in Santa Cruz, and it's one of the few that has hired me.
You might also check the hotels. The pay sucks, but the advantage is that you don't actually have to do anything. You can spend the whole time writing, making art, reading, working other freelance jobs, doing situps, looking for better work, etc. In the winter you'll see, maybe, three customers a day. Plus, the families will often feed you and even send you home with food.
Or you could move to the Bay. Housing is much cheaper and jobs abound. I don't know anyone (besides the chronically unemployed Tim and Liam) who havn't found a actually decent job withing a couple weeks of getting here. You could actually work in field you like and contribute to a career out here- the artist is teaching art, the biologist is working in a lab, the waitress is making a hundred bucks a night at a fancy sushi joint, I set up lights and gawk at hot high schoolers. It's employment heaven here.
Moving to the Bay was the plan (mit Chris and Ravi), but things have gotten... special. But thanks for the tip - it may pay off in the Bay during the interim.
