How to control foam scraps?

So, I'm making my first digigrade legs out of upholstery foam, snip-snip-snipping away with my scissors, and I end up absolutely buried in the little flecks and bits of foam I'm cutting off. I'm doing my best to scrape them up after each session, brush myself off over the wastebasket, but still. They are on EVERYTHING. Myself, my carpet, my cat ( Read more... )

This post was made with fur in mind, but it should work with anything lightweight (like tiny foam scraps): https://twitter.com/dub_mutt/status/709434452896845824

That's a really clever idea! I have a box fan I use for crafts, so I will keep it in mind when I get to furring. :)

I like misting piles of foam scraps with a light spray of water! Cuts down a lot on the static factor :)

If you have carpet, you can use a slicker brush to brush the floor and pick up all the foam chunks. Don't do it on hardwood or laminate obviously! xD

Measures to cut down static. The easiest way to do this is to take some of those throwaway dryer softener sheets and basically rub down all your work surfaces and anything you see the bits of foam have stuck too. Also increase humidity in the area, so a spray bottle full of water with a few drops of detergent that you use to mist the area will help a lot.

If you have a permanant work area, see about locating a cheap shopvac someplace where it can be turned on and left on, then extend the hose of sucktitude to your work area with some of the tubing they use for built in vacuum cleaners. Put a remote control switch for it next to your bench.
