That could be what that is. Specifically, it looks like the type of cross stitch cloth designed to stay on the fabric when the project is done (either by being the main fabric of the project, or to add depth/texture to the final project

This is helpful, but what I'm really looking for is a material with smaller holes... a buckram that looks nice.
As I said, I like the cross stitch stuff for toony eyes, but I'm looking for something with smaller holes for more realistic eyes.
I'm currently examining millinery (hat-making) suppliers to see if they have any specialty buckrams that could fit the bill. I'll keep this comm posted if I find any treasures =)
Hmmm... someone once told me at a convention that a good eye substitute that worked really well was to take ping pong balls and poke holed in them in a grid like pattern. From a distance, it was apparently unnoticeable. (I was talking about fixing my Darkwing eyes, because I had foolishly used sunglass lenses for the pupils and they fogged up something terrible
