-Overcoming drug abuse...-

Self-discovery, the building block behind civilization, is made and matched by countless obstacles of tendency and longing. A drug abuser is a prime example in mankind’s battle between the mind and body. The abuse of a drug can be quite predictable and yet dangerously uncontrollable, tearing the abuser apart on central issues of faith and self-regard. Whether drugs are to blame, or if its users are just overdoing the medicinal purposes, overcoming an addiction demands faith in oneself. The act of denial is a constant feature in the human character. Drugs have a tremendous impact on everything the user surrounds themselves with. The addiction can be at such a cost that the people surrounding the abuser’s life will be personally affected, destroying the very root of the user’s social life. Like drying out a wound, the injured must avoid from itching, as it only leaves a more permanent scar.

The problem with most illegal drugs is that education does not have much of an influence on the abuser’s decision. The basic user justifies his decision of a certain drug just by overhearing accounts by prior users. A great flaw in the whole of the drug community is that education only downs their spontaneous faith in the outcome of the experience. Understanding the drug before trying it will greatly improve the user’s perception of what to expect, and most of all, how to handle their development through both a physical and mental relapse. The power of altering one’s perception can only be placed in certain people’s hands. A vast number of people are genetically made in the manner that they can’t withstand certain drugs. Light drinkers are at somewhat of a disadvantage from a drunk’s perspective, but they are actually more understanding of their limitations. The power of education and awareness is enough to save any life from addiction.

Under every feeling perceived from a drug is the conscience itself, intact through repetition. The user has to believe in what they are consuming in order for them to have control over their perception. In overcoming addiction one must realize what it is they really are looking for in the fix. Whether or not they want to get away or they just want to get closer, drug abusers define their lives by how well they can be themselves; through the drug. If it becomes impossible to be oneself through the drug, the abuser must break apart completely. Many long-term users wonder what their lives may have been like without the constant abuse, yet continue on carelessly. Depression and self-doubt are common points in the abuser’s struggle with maintaining the drug’s side effects. They may justify their actions by ignoring them, building the lie like a house of cards.

The answer in self-discovery, and to overcoming an addiction, is to seek hope in others. The user’s surroundings shape how he/she perceives themselves. For a drug addict, his surroundings may include a whole room of fellow abusers. Self-discovery would demand that the user realize what it is the people in the room are saying to each other. Without even opening their mouths, drug abusers are telling each other that reality lies outside of themselves. Some people consider religion to be a drug, and with that in mind, one realizes you have to watch out where you insert your faith. Drugs are a basic entity that should not be used with a selfish outlook. The ultimate reality is knowing you are not alone; that your actions are interchangeable with everything.

What can be realized, through the overcoming of drugs, easily adapts to other problems one must endure through the modern day life. Everything that is done in the world can be done that much better with the power of numbers. To bring the world together the individuals, themselves, have to believe in the world.
Self-discovery is basically self-actualization, defining the uncertainties of life and living in contentment. Drugs make the user’s ask themselves if being content does not include whatever they desire. But the question should never be what one wants, but instead what one should need.
