A week ago from this post Rapid lost his life, I don't know the exact details of what happened (I was told natural causes but... I'm not sure an autopsy will be done, also I want to say I'm sad the family has decided not to do a wake and will be keeping the funeral private). But what I had gathered about his death, he was returning from a vacation and either was feeling ill on board the plane or sometime after landing, he was taken to a hospital but they were unable to revive him. I know from interacting with Richard that his health... was not the greatest and that it was declining.
I first met Rapid soon after meeting some of the other NYC furs when he was doing an appearance as Bugs Bunny for Time Warner Cable, I think it was through the Hudson Fur mailing list that I found out about it and that he was looking for people as handlers. I met him in Brooklyn, he was already in suit and it was when we went into the changing van that I first got to see what he looked like - and that his voice was pretty much the voice he was doing for Bugs Bunny. That day me and Foxen (another lost fur) helped him as handlers.
Rapid helped get me more involved in fursuiting, introduced me to a lot of people and events, and in general was a very kind soul. I take some solace that his final days were spent traveling and enjoying his hobbies. Seeing all the people who commented on his facebook account, it really hits you that he knew so many people.
