Road trip

So,I'm planning a road trip next month, starting and returning to Kansas City, MO.  My plan is to head east via St, Louis, Louisville, Knoxville, Deals Gap, Ashville, Augusta GA.  Any suggestions on how to return?  I don't necessarily want to go the same way back.  North Arkansas looks promising, but there doesn't seem to be anything from north Georgia to the Arkansas border.  Any ideas?
