They need me.
The wind is a howl so loud that I can't hear my own yelling. My feet move in a slow shuffle but my arms flail about me with a will of their own faster than I can keep track of. My bible is there.
They need me.
Janey is there, she's dying. A crimson pool of blood is flowing over her face. Bessie is trying to tell me something. She's very angry, but I can't understand what she's saying. I can't reach them, the wind is lifting me away from them and I can't stay on the ground.
They need me.
I'm falling over and over, the white ground is moving outward and focusing on a single point. I gasp as I see everyone in [Somewhere, Kansas] is dead, frozen and discarded like wood chips on the ground and I'm falling right into them. And then I see my father. He's moving the bodies into the pile. He looks up and sees me falling. His eyes are black as pitch, his skin as pale and cracked as the ground around him. He sneers at me and gives me a knowing nod as I fall to my death.
