Along with the ever-present voices in his head; they've been whispering a bit louder since this sudden weather began. And they're getting harder to ignore

[ Genesis' voice is chased by a soft echo. The sound of the heavy torrent of rain seems reduced, muffled to an intimate murmur. ]

Wrath of the Heavens, perhaps?

[ voice ]

[Sephiroth's reply isn't without its own cynical amusement.]

It does seem so, doesn't it?

[ voice ]

[ There's a long pause, it's obvious he's mulling something over in his head. ]

... What do you suppose it will bring?

[And likewise.]

Fear. Panic. At the very least.

[Beat.]

I'd feel better, Genesis, if you and Angeal were here with us.

[ voice ]

[ An even longer pause and then, spoken with a rare vulnerability to his voice; ]

I'm more concerned about what it might extract from us.

[ ... Genesis' mind shifts elsewhere, his voice containing a smidgen of regret. ]

... I'm in no fit state to be around others.

[ voice ]

[Now there's weary exasperation in Sephiroth's voice, though it remains low.]

Genesis.... Damnit, I will drag you out of that cave if necessary.

[ voice ]

Should disaster strike, there are civilians present that could surely use your assistance.

[ He almost sounds pleased with himself, and yet there is a firm tone to his voice that suggests he is absolutely right in making the inhabitants of Somarium top priority. ]

[ voice ]

This is true. But I will not allow you to play the martyr, Genesis. There is no need for such nonsense.

[ voice ]

[ voice ]

Well, I suppose if it's the General's orders ...

[ Usually, a statement such as that would have sounded rather caustic coming from Genesis, but this time ... If one was to listen carefully, they'd hear the gentle teasing in his voice. ]

[Oh, Sephiroth heard it. And vented a somewhat placated grunt.]
