Viva Las Vegas!

T im's brother Mark had a business convention in Vegas this week, so he suggested we meet up here over the weekend. We booked our air tickets, hotel and car... then Mark backed out. So we're here on our own. No big deal; we're having a fun time.

We were sitting at John Wayne airport enjoying a pre-flight sandwich when my blackberry started making noises in my pocket. I correctly guessed that it was the phone ringing (I diverted the house phone to my blackberry). It was the manager of the Blue Moon saying that they had overbooked, and would we mind a free night's stay at the Palazzo instead? They must have a reciprocal agreement so if the Blue Moon is overbooked they send people to the Palazzo. Presumably if the Palazzo is overbooked they send people to Blue Moon.

So, a quick Google shows that the Palazzo's cheapest rooms start at about $300 and look sumptuous. We're not crazy about staying one night in one place then packing up and moving, but we don't have much choice.
Driving down the Strip is a nightmare. Stop, go.
The Palazzo is indeed very nice and I highly recommend if you are offered a free night there you take it up with no  hesitation.

We had our own fax machine, and the curtains open themselves if you start to move them apart. There were 2 televisions in the main room, another in the bathroom, and a phone in the loo. You know you're in a classy place if the loo has it's own phone!

The next morning I called the Blue Moon and said "Do you have a room for us, or would you like us to stay at the Palazzo another night?". The manager laughed and said "We can't afford to have you stay another night."
So we moved. The Blue Moon kindly upgraded us and gave us a nice big room with separate living room area, very nice.

Last night we did the Freemont Experience. In all the times I've been to Vegas I have never seen the Freemont Experience. I enjoyed the music (70s rock) and the display was pretty good, but they're going to have to do something to catch up with HD quality televisions.

I had to work at 5am - we had a server outage - which was tough considering we got back to the room at about 1am having emptied our wallets into 'Wheel of Fortune' machines. But I was able to sleep in after it was fixed.

At the Blue Moon, the Sunday Pool Party is now in full swing:

We're going to head down there shortly, to double the numbers. It's our duty as guests to support the functions, despite the 100+ degree temperatures.
