Whatever criticism I have for Harry Potter or her rendition of Tonks or CS Lewis' view of feminism etc fades when I realise that the theme of GRRM's deconstructing high-fantasy is that women are unfit to rule. It seems as if in A Dance with Dragons, we are being given a list, just in narrative form.

There goes my hope that in a destabilized kingdoms, gender and its traditions within society would mean less. In fact, it did mean less in terms of the mythical world, but the narrative is not allowing it beyond certain boundaries.
