There aren't anyone to actually like in this series. I've half a book left. I'm not sure if the story's becoming hysterical or I am, but this "epic" is starting to become a bit of a walking-tour of a fantasy world. It's also starting to bore me. The intrigues are lessened in grandeur. And even shallowly, sum to date, there's a surfeit of beautiful women, fewer beautiful men, all those celibate warrior orders is rather odd. The internet says GRRM prefers not to write m/m. Supporters trots out moving-the-plot forward reasons, but there's no possible way that there are scenes in ASOIAF weren't designed to titillate an assumed male audience. Perhaps I'm in a way sheltered in my fantasy-reading. If I never knew what the male-gaze is, I certainly do now because it's there even in the female POVs. It's increasingly blatant and discomforting.
And then there are the religious orders..
