Yeah, Cabin Fever.
I have repeatedly told my nephew not to put one or two items in the washing machine on the FULL LOAD setting because it is an irresponsible waste of water and costs my father money. He continues to do so. This morning I found a damp dish towel and a pair of his socks in the machine, load setting at FULL. This has been going on for years. He continues to do this in an almost snotty and defiant manner I'm finding increasingly enraging as we all shelter in place. Since losing my job and the pandemic, I have spent more time in the house and I've observed many things about my nephew that I find unacceptable for a 25 year old.
I am trying to stay calm. Thinking, "At least he's doing something...". But, it has to stop, this shit with the washing machine and what he calls "light loads".
What I find laughable is that he insists on recycling (I'm all for it) but when you try to explain water waste to him he becomes incredibly defensive no matter what tone or approach you use.
I'm sorry - things with my nephew have been bothering me for a while now and I need a complaint outlet.
Is it the Aspergers? Is it just plain assholism? Is it simply the fact that he's never been on his own or had to pay bills, worry about work, been given real responsibility...? Probably a combination of all three. It is exhausting to be around a person like this. To have a family member like this. To live in close quarters with a person like this.
Since I've been home practically ALL OF THE TIME now (James and I have not spent our usual weekends together at his house for almost three weeks now) I've been trying to clean up and organize the house, help my dad find easier ways to manage certain things, and calmly prepare for the worst that could come out of this pandemic. My nephew hasn't done much. Not even a sink full of dishes.
I know it's a combination of being on the spectrum, mental health issues, stunted emotional development, etc - but, the least he could do is stop speaking to my father like he's a moron. It's the snottiness and arrogance that gets me. I do not see him as a man. He is stuck in adolescence.
