Ahh, this is wonderful and does my heart so much good. I feel all warm and glowing on the inside now. Even them saying "I love you" felt right in this instance. I love the characterization here, especially Ichigo leaping to conclusions. The books you have Ishida studying made me diverge from the usual Dr. Ishida idea and into Medical Examiner Ishida (which then leads into Ichigo being a detective, and I start thinking of a Rizzoli & Isles type AU...) XD I actually think Ishida would be a great pathologist, even tho I'm sure he'd have a better bedside manner than his father.

Your writing is just as lovely and succinct as always. Thank you so much for writing this. Oh, and I wouldn't worry about them turning out to be brothers (tho when did incest ever stop shippers, really...) I think the worst will be that they end up being 1st cousins, but even that may not happen. (Oh, and I already checked: 1st cousin marriage is legal in Japan and apparently not a big deal, so even if they do end up being cousins, I'm not going to let it bother me.)

Thank you mucho for writing and posting this, especially today.

Thank you very much! ♥ I am so pleased that you enjoyed it. ^^

I dithered a lot before doing the "I love you" thing -- I tend to shy away from using the "I like you" that is seen in most yaoi/BL manga scanlations because even though "好きだ" translates to "I like you" I think most of the time it actually means "I love you" depending on the context (as most Japanese speakers wouldn't tend to use "愛してる" even if that's what they actually mean when they speak), and "I like you" just sounds IDK juvenile unless the parties are like 13 years old but I'm kind of an old biddy so YMMV. #PortingJapaneseSentimentIntoEnglishProblems In this case I felt that Ishida would want to make a really significant gesture to make up for totally breaking Ichigo's poor heart by being so cold to him after two years apart, so it felt like the right thing to do. Normally I would have opted for a more physical expression since that's how I think these two roll, but Ishida thinking "Kon" when he looked at Ichigo kind of put the kibosh on that, so. /o\

omg a Rizzoli and Isles type AU would be amazing! (I haven't actually seen R&I but I know enough about it from Tumblr to know it's really cool).

Also ahh sorry for being confusing -- I don't actually think they're brothers; the comment above is in the context of another conversation that commenter and I had on Twitter (but that's good to know about first cousin marriage ^^). I do find IchiIshi much harder to get my head around now because Ichigo's Quincy background changes the rules of the game between them, and I can't be sure to which extent until we find out precisely how Ichigo is a Quincy (if he is at all). The whole Romeo-and-Juliet aspect of the relationship kind of stops being relevant if they're both of Quincy descent (even if Ishida continues to hate the part of Ichigo that's a Shinigami), which alters the pairing dynamic (I mean, it could really go either way -- Ishida might become more receptive to Ichigo because they've got an ancestral connection or he might begin to hate Ichigo even more for being the abominable child of mortal enemies or something IDK ahhhh I wish Kubo would tell us soon ^^).

You needn't apologize about the "I love you"s in this. Given the circumstances, I think it's appropriate. I can get twitchy about it because I see some writers sling it around like the two are in a Harlequin romance, but that's not the case here. It's very well done.

Sigh. I know what you mean about changing the dynamic. I keep joking with people about "since when does incest stop shippers?" but it really is more than that. Ichigo being part Quincy can and does mess with the accepted dynamic, at least superficially, and I've been giving it a lot of thought lately.

The thing about Ishida hating Ichigo for being a Shinigami, well, knowing Ishida, he'd just think up another reason to be rude to Ichigo. After all, I don't think he actually hates Shinigami any more, especially not after HM. He really hasn't had a reason to hate them in general since he found out it was Mayuri who arranged Souken's death. I think he just uses it as an excuse to keep Ichigo at arm's length and to put him down. Ichigo's still going to be a Shinigami, so I don't really see him having Quincy blood as a dealbreaker.

I am a bit worried about the fighting style thing. I loved the simplicity of "Shinigami fight with the power within, Quincy fight by drawing power from the outside". I'm not sure how much that will change, tho. After all, Ichigo has never developed the full range of any of his powers,e.g. he's never learned kidou. He may only get Blut as a defense and nothing else. I sure don't see him wearing white and fighting with a bow.

This is not to belittle your concerns -- I have them, too. (Obviously I was concerned enough to look up first-cousin marriage in JP.) ;) I just know that I'll somehow work around whatever I have to for this pairing, even if I just have to write AU stuff. (And let's face it, since canon is open, most works end up being a bit AU anyway.)

As for Rizolli & Isles, I've only seen 2 shows, but it really does seem pretty good, and since the cop is very rough and tumble and kinda working-class while the ME/doctor is upper-middle class, very educated, and a bit snootier, Ichigo & Ishida really would translate pretty naturally into those parts. Heh. Thanks for the idea. ;)

I do share your twitchiness about "I love you", which is why I felt like I needed to explain! Fanfic in general tends to get so heavy on cheap melodrama in favour of attention to characters that it can get really disheartening (and backbutton-worthy).

Ishida is definitely going to find a new reason to be generally annoyed at Ichigo, you're right. He's such a tsundere it's kind of embarrassing. ♥_♥ It's not even that I think that Ichigo's Quincy blood would necessarily be a dealbreaker for Ishida (if anything, it might make Ryuuken more amenable to them being friends, too, especially if he's a descendant of some bigshot Quincy (as Juha Bach seems to be..?). The whole thing just forces an altered view of the relationship which is difficult when I've had years to spin little headcanon webs in my head. :">

I hadn't even thought about the fighting style thing! That is a really good point and would make for a fascinating character study (of Ichigo) if Kubo doesn't address it directly in the text. (Ahh but now I want to write a story where Ishida tries to make a proper Quincy out of Ichigo, makes him an outfit and everything, only to have Ichigo fight him on it every step of the way while going along grudgingly because he's the best boyfriend ever... um... >.>)
