[ History ] :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamen_Rider_Accel http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Kamen_Rider_Accel [ Personality ] : In general, Terui Ryuu presents himself as a competent, intelligent, and responsible young man. He is generally very self-possessed and professional--traits he needed to be able to rise so far up the ranks of the police force, especially given his age, which is still something about which he is slightly sensitive. He comes off as being older than he actually is, and is generally quiet and willing to observe a situation before he throws himself in head-first.
His calm breaks down, however, when he is in a stressful emotional situation. In general, he takes the necessary time to assess a dangerous or high-stress situation, but if he is pressured emotionally, he can rush, or throw himself in without thinking. Most of his more impulsive behavior was centered around his revenge on the individual who murdered his family--he has both nearly killed unarmed civilians due to a case of mistaken identity and gotten killed himself running into a trap unprepared towards that end. Similarly, he will also jump into dangerous situations when he believes the lives of innocents are in jeopardy.
He also tends to panic slightly when embarrassed or upset--he’s really a pretty shy kid, at heart. He was very dedicated to his work as a police officer before the death of his family, and after the death of his family he was driven by revenge, neither of which were pastimes that allowed for much of a social life. His closest friend was his sister, before she was killed--besides his family and the man who killed him, we never see anyone else who links him to his life before he arrived in Futo, so she seemed to be pretty much his only friend. He’s a very reserved person, which serves him well in his role as an investigator but can hamper his other relationships.
He can, however, learn to open up to people. He and his sister teased each other often, and we see some him exhibit some of that same behavior in relation to the members of the Narumi Detective Agency; Philip, Shoutarou and Akiko. He is also more emotive in general when in the Agency, and they seem to be the only people he feels really comfortable with being in his physical space, Akiko in particular.
All in all, Ryuu is a smart, capable, quiet young man who has been put through a lot of trauma with a limited set of emotional tools to use to deal with it. He’s a little rough around the edges, but he genuinely cares about those closest to him. He has a strong moral code, and a passion for his work and for helping others. ...even if strange girls touching him send him into fits of hysterical panic.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] : He is very physically fit, and presumably can handle firearms, has at least some hand-to-hand combat training, and anything else that a standard Japanese police officer would be taught how to do. He can also turn into a motorcycle. Powers in that vein are heavily detailed up in the Kamen Rider Wiki for Accel, the second link under history.
His biggest weakness was his obsession for revenge against the man who murdered his family--whenever it was brought up, either in passing or during a case, it caused him to drop literally everything else to chase any new leads he may have found. This ended poorly for him on several occasions, but as of episode 36, that is no longer a problem. Standing weaknesses include occasional impulsiveness or fit of bad temper, and his low- to medium-range emotional intelligence. He is all right at understanding people--he has to be, to be a decent inspector for the police--but he’s not great at it, and while he can understand why people do things on an intellectual level a lot of the time, he can have trouble empathizing. He is also elementally weak to Girl. critical hit
[ Other Important Facts ] : Standard equipment includes--motorcycle boots, standard duty belt for his police work (including handcuffs, which is the only piece of equipment we see him use with any regularity), badge (which he keeps in the breast pocket of his jacket), riding leathers, and the Accel belt and memories.
[ Sample ] :
the soft shuddering crunch of his foot on the smooth, snow-covered wood floor was vivid and loud, and he could hear ice crackling along the walls as warm air from outside the apartment blew in just as a blast of freezing cold struck him full in the face, stealing his breath like a slap and numbing him as he stepped in from the August heat. he didn't bother to toe his shoes off as he staggered forward, dazed and still uncomprehending, the once-brightly-colored "congratulations!" banner pinned up on the wall wilting sadly under the weight of pale frost. the whole apartment looked washed out and dead, sheeted with ice, the snow muffling the shape of his home until it was unrecognizable, until he could barely tell one object from another.
which is why it took him as long as it did to notice the three pale bodies, crumpled in a heap on the floor.
he cried out and pitched forward to his knees on the freezing ground, the wetness in his eyes stinging in the biting cold of the apartment. horror choked him, welling in his throat along with denial and the subtler oily slide of resignation, helpless knowing as he reached out, unable to stop himself, knowing that if he finished the movement and touched--and his hand connected with his father’s pale, frosted shoulder, and his family shattered into a million fragments of ice, glittering and sharp. he could feel them blow past his face, strike against his skin as his eyes widened and he drew in a breath to scream--
Terui Ryuu came awake gasping.
He jerked himself into a sitting position and wrapped his arms around himself immediately, feeling the freezing chill that had settled into his bones. He sat there for long moments, shaking with cold and reaction, before he realized that he was wet. He uncurled slightly with an effort, feeling the ache in his whole body as he sat up and put his hands to the ground to push himself to his feet, starting when they came into contact with soft sand. A horrible thought occurred to him and he jerked his hands up, patting frantically at his pockets, but his Accel belt and all of his memories were present, as was his wallet, everything on his belt, and his badge. Probably not an attack, then--a criminal would have at least taken something--his wallet or his phone, even if they were too incompetent to know what the belt was. It only then occurred to Ryuu to wonder why he was fully dressed. The last thing he remembered was drinking coffee at his table in his tiny apartment at two-thirty in the morning. He vaguely recalled waiting for the coffee to kick in, and laying his head down on the table for just a moment... Ryuu was exhausted, far more so than he should have been regardless of his poor sleep, so much so that his hands trembled slightly when he stood and brushed himself off. He shoved them in his pockets and looked around.
He was in a totally unfamiliar city that seemed to go on for miles, and when he followed the skyline... there didn't seem to be a sky. He shook himself a little, his teeth still chattering with cold, and tried to calm down, see if he could figure out where he was. He turned slowly and saw only more city and more of that blue, wavering not-sky, with the exception of a brightly-colored light hovering over his shoulder. He took a few steps, toward the city and glanced back--it bobbed right along with him. He stopped again and glared consideringly before he raised a hand and swatted at it. It dodged, made no noise, and just kept right on where it was. Ryuu made an exasperated sound and turned around again, starting off in the most promising direction he could find. He had better things to worry about right now.
Like figuring out where the hell he even was.
