I've seen these things many many times. They are some kind of pupae. What comes out of them are very slender, active black worms. These came out of the sinuses of a canid skull. I could hear them dryly knocking around in the sinus cavities, and couldn't shake them all out breaking up the dry sinus material. I removed *at least double this amount* from the cranial cavity over week ago.. I hate dealing with these- freezing won't kill them, even many household cleaners won't penetrate the shells after an overnight soaking. I I didn't do the flesh removal on this one. This skull was mascerated out doors in buckets of water. I presume it was allowed to dry outside too.The problem with letting them sit inside the skull is that if they are exposed to enough moisture, *they hatch* and the black worms crawl out- sometimes in masse. See all the fat blackish grains in among the grey dust? THAT'S ALL WORMS to-be!
UGH! (I'm officially too grossed out).
Thanks for any ID assistance that you can give!
*Ugh*- What the hell are they? I want an official name for these nasties.
