Mornin' all :) I'm pretty new to this so I've only enough deadthings to fill one shelf and most of them are from here, but hey!
Do excuse my whiteboard. I'm hoping to move it and put the butterflies up there.
Closeup! I do love these. I got them for £30 from a gorgeous little vintage shop. I'm not sure how old they are but the text is printed on a typewriter and the wings are a little faded, so I'm guessing considerably older than I am!
Closeup of the left. On top is Sarah the dog and beneath is Annabella the foal. Or so I assume anyway, I don't know much about dentition; she was sold as a pony but she still has unerupted molars. Around the bottom are some fur scraps, a hunk of rose quartz I bought as a child and a wooden dolphin that serves as a lucky charm.
Now we have Daniel the goat, with coyote tails in back. He has such cool horns! I need to find a better way to display him so they can be seen. Next to him some old coins, a seal fur necklace by
modastrid, a piece of labradorite, an old key and amethyst. And more fur scraps, of course! To the far left is Devin the gerastos. I have a habit of naming absolutely everything, as you can tell.
Now to the right. Peacock feather resting on an unnamed (gasp!) fox skull. Then a 50 million year old shark tooth and fossilized clam (saying to people 'hey, wanna see my clam???' is fun :P ) on a goniatite plate. Right down the street from the vintage shop there's a fossil shop! There's a bunch of antique shops in that street too. How lucky is that? If anyone wants to visit they've got an online shop
here, but I don't know if they ship outside of the UK. You can get a little T-rex fragment for £1!
As for the questions.. First an ID! I think I might have bought this from
modastrid's etsy some time ago but I can't remember what she is. The pictures aren't too great but I can get some more if needed.
Secondly.. Does algae damage skulls? As you can see above, my foal skull is uncleaned. I quite like her as she is but obviously if the algae is going to eat into her over time or something I need to clean her. Here's a bonus photo I took for my photography module.
