Peggy is gone

The last of the original 3 Bassets (as in http://3bassets.com), Peggy, just died.
I'm not sure what happened, my mom tells me she started getting anxious, walked out to the yard, her belly started to bloat and then she died in a few minutes. EDIT The vet says she died of Gastric torsion.

Contrary to what most of my readers here probably believe, Peggy was my favorite of the 3Bassets (and my favorite pet period until Pulque).

Toby had a great personality, he was extremely easy to anthropomorphize because he acted like a kid... like a spoiled kid. He was moody and stubborn and cute and caprichozo and berrinchudo and adorable... He was also gorgeous, a near perfect specimen of Basset Hound, when we'd occasionally take him to the kennel club, they'd always insist we had him compete because they were sure he'd win (we never did, partly because he was so spoiled)

Peggy, however, was pure sweetness. There was practically not a time when she would walk without wagging her tail. She was always happy. When my sister and ex-brother in law would sing their cover of Jingle Bells with her unofficial full name (Peggy Sue), she'd always join in and howl with them.
When we first got Jaco (who, BTW, was Toby's son, but not Peggy's) Peggy took on him like a mother. She cared for him, protected him played with him to no end. When Jaco died she mourned him for quite a while...
Unlike Toby, she wasn't the strongest looker. I mean, she was very cute and pretty and adorable, but not quite the most Basset-looking dog. Her ears were too short, her skin wasn't loose enough, her body wasn't thick enough. But she was very feminine and cute. Whenever she'd sit down, her right leg would always sit in the most girl-like fashion (I don't seem to have a good picture of that, but this one sort of shows it).
Her skin being "tighter" than normal for a Basset also meant she didn't have the typical "Sad dog" face that people say Bassets (and blood hounds) have (I have to admit, living with Bassets for over 10 years, I don't see the sad face anymore at all). That went very well with her upbeat personality.

I always thought her rear end looked like a greek column (kind of hard to see in that picture). Her tail also always had a curl on the tip, which was very cute.

I will sure miss her

So now they are all gone
