Мехелен расположен между Брюсселем и Антверпеном. Кроме собственно города в состав муниципалитета входят посёлки
Хеффен (Heffen), Хомбек (Hombeek), Лест (Leest), Мёйзен (Muizen) и Валем (Walem).
Общее население муниципалитета - 80 176 жителей, площадь - 65,19 км (оба числа - по состоянию на 2008 год).

This large set of brass scales from the early twentieth century features its original brass pans and is stamped in two places by the maker J. Daems,
along with the name of the city Malines or Mechelen, Belgium. Resting on a walnut base, a brass lever at the bottom allows for the scales to be raised
from the surface for use. The balancing bar that supports the pan hooks is marked 10 Kilogr, the maximum weight in kilograms that this set of scales holds.
A complete set of twelve brass gram weights stamped A B with a star in the middle are included in their original nested oak case.
These scales would make a perfect addition to an office or on top of a buffet as a decorative object, circa 1920.
