Those are suspiciously familiar sounding symptoms.  If it is what it sounds like to me, this is a fine display ( Read more... )

Ok, if they didn't even get into the containers, and still got enough to die, thats a big whack of something putting out quite a bit of hard radiation, and I'm not a radiation geek. Are they shipping a dirty dispersal device via container to Rotterdam?

Optimal weather conditions for a long sit as it goes through the Suez Canal, or if parked off shore of Tel Aviv, would mean bad news for Israel if a terrible accident were to occur.

It would have made a darn fine October surprise if those meddling Somali pirates hadn't come along.

Now we just need to take the mask off of Old Man Ahmedinejad...

I can't say I fully understand other than "OH NOES THIS BAD," and that it was probably radioactive in nature. What about the crew that was aboard? Were they dosed/ill? Were they all killed?

Crew is fine, apparently. They probably didn't go down into the hold; the pirates did and paid the price for appraising their booty.

Not likely to be "petroleum" or "minerals" as crew inconsistently claimed. Of course, there are some very interesting minerals and petroleum products in the world. While this looks like acute radiation sickness, it is also possible with some truly toxic nasty shit. Either way, this is a boat Full Of No Good.

I work with radiation for a living and scares me shitless too. The material does not frighten me; people do.

If you haven't seen a movie called "Pu-239" I highly reccomend it. Its about a Russian powerplant technician (Paddy Considine) who gets dosed with radiation and blamed for an accident, resulting in him stealing plutonium to sell to try to support his family. Just saw it, outstanding movie.

Quite good and very much enjoyed it. There were a couple of moments I had to do some very willing suspension of disbelief, but far less than I normally do for the average Bond film. It was only because this is a topic I have firsthand experience with, similiar to if someone had made a movie called "U-Joist" and showed it to a carpenter.

It is now part of my DVD collection.
