You know what they say about walking a mile in another man's shoes, right? Well, today, ALL DAY, I had combat boots on... and let me just say.. there are no words to describe the experience.. other than OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUCH! Yeah... it's painful, apparently till they are broken in.. dang, I should have listened to Leo when he warned me.. So basically, in pain, I thought about the armed forces.. and really there is no upside.. I mean, you get to wear painful shoes, get pushed around by some controlling, pushy person who screams at you, often not without colorful language... and there is always the possibility of BEING SHOT.. of course.. So honestly, what nut would get into something like that? It cant really be for the money, because even engineers and doctors don't really earn as much as they would in the real world... so why would anyone do it? Patriotism.. a love of freedom.. to protect that which they love. *sigh* All I can say, is I have a great deal of respect and love for those who go through that.. and people can say anything they want.. but they have no right to judge the men and women in uniform--who, at the end of the day, do protect us and our way of life--till they've walked a mile (preferably more for the full effect) in their (rather painful) boots..
(ok, I exaggerated.. it isn't that bad.. but I wasn't exactly running in them.. or sitting in a small confined space for hours on end.. squatting in them is very painful for the littler toes, though.. so I can't imagine staying still in them for anything more than a few minutes.. and yes, I know I'm a wimp, in case anyone was planning on pointing that out...)
