you know whats amazing? 5 years after "reality" television shows started showing up, we have our FIRST reality show. by that i mean...
no holds barred fighting in a cage.
and no, its not wrestling

SpikeTV's "The Ultimate Fighter" chronicles one of my favorite sports promotions of all time. "Ultimate Fighting Championship"

i remember when i was a young lad, my dad and his freinds would all come over and we'd watch UFC on pay-per-view. Ken Shamrock, Tank Abbot, Tito Ortiz....
they are allowed to do whatever they want to the other person, and the referee (who is usually bigger than the fighters) stops the fight when one guy is to injured to go on.

i remember the first one i saw. it was tank abbot vs. hayoto sakurai. i was watching this expecting WWF style fighting, cause i saw a cage and thought "oo cool cage match". but i soon found out the cage was to protect everyone outisde of it, cause these men were killing machines. 10 seconds into the fight, abbot was on the ground and sakurai was elbowing him in the head. ref tackles him, abbot gets up, and kicks him so hard in the shin that it literally shatters before our very eyes. this man's leg buckles under pressure at the shin, and he falls down. abbot then jumps on him and pummels him in the face 6 times before the ref calls the fight.

everyone in the room was silent. like a stunned silence. my dad had a "OH MY GOD" look on his face.
this quickly became the best monthly $30 he ever spent, as we'd all gather round for the tourny in front of the TV each month having a great time watching these guys beat the hell out of eachother.

and now they are doing it on regular TV, getting these guys ready to fight balls-to-the-wall tooth and nail for a spot on the UFC circuit.

tune in. its a great show. real drama. real violence. real people. none of that scripted reality TV bullshit. none of this "im on TV so im going to become a differant person inf ront of the camera" shit. its all real. and its all very well done.

"Our first ever show was in Las Vegas. The place was sold out. The 2 guys in the ring started to beat the hell out of eachother. One guy palmed the other's head, and smashed it into the ring floor a couple of times until blood started coming out of the guys mouth. The ref stopped the fight and held the guys arms up as the winner. The crowd was silent. We thought 'what the fuck did we start?' as soon as we got that reaction. Fuck it, I still got in the ring and gave them a show... but i think they were expecting wrestling instead of no holds barred fighting... oh well. live and learn!" ~Ken Shamrock
