For me, in the long run, it wasn't, because I wasn't making enough money to justify losing all of my weekends. Much will depend on your particular area and how many other event coordinators there are in the area. I will tell you that the people who make the most money at it work for either very rich clients or corporations.

It's a lot of work, especially going it alone. I don't want to be the one to discourage you from doing it, if it is something you love, but it won't be an easy job, by any stretch of the imagination, and it likely won't ever make you rich, but if you love it, and you are happy, and you can pay the bills, well, there are worse things in life. Just be aware that the most rewarding parts of this job aren't monetary. It helps if you coordinate the entire event and charge a percentage of everything you arrange, plus a set fee, but it isn't a job you get wealthy from. In this economy, especially, the first things to be cut are luxury items, and more and more people are going the do-it-yourself route.

I recommend research, right now, before you outlay money for schooling. Contact event coordinators in your area. Be candid with them, and find out what they charge. Do the math and see if you can live on that and still be competitive.

If you are thinking of going into business for yourself, as opposed to joining an already established business, look into the costs associated with advertising, LLC incorporation (so some Bridezilla can't sue you and take you personal assets) schooling and acredidation, office space if you are planning on working outside the home, etc.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade. I just want to encourage you to do some research before you drop any money or invest months of schooling.

In the end it is a choice only you can make.

Thanks for the reality check.

My boss is setting me up with people who do events for ACS so I can get a better idea what all it intails.

I just like making up business names with my name (cheesy I know)

And it is a kick ass name! I meant to mention that before but forgot to do so.
