Doesn't Japanese kinda look like a neat and orderly row of squashed bugs? I mean, if I ever get good at Japanese, the defining moment will be when I can look at a page of characters and just start working my way through, and skip those first few seconds where I blink in horror.
I like how people assume I intend to use Japanese for some purpose, like going to Japan or watching anime without the subtitles or something. Neither of those things would make me unhappy. Truth is though, that I'm just learning it because it sounded difficult, and I like languages. Nothing more or less. The fact that at the end of the process I'll know some Japanese is just like a bonus. I may be crazy. (No, wait, that's a personality, attribution.)
