"W"

oliver stone's "w" is awful. if you don't know, it's a biopic of bush's younger years, starting from college through the iraq invasion. the movie applies a similar format to the tv show lost: showing the present, while flashing forward and backward in time. it's not effective, and the camera angles made me feel drunk in a bad way. the character studies were spot on, for the most part. bush was portrayed as an angry man just trying to live up to his father's expectations, only to think he has constantly failed. the condi rice character was weak, i thought, showing her not willing to buck the president, which i guess is factually accurate of her early days in the white house. it made her seem weak as a person. the colin powell character was portrayed as the outsider in the inner circle, and pretty much the only reasonable person. dick cheney was dick cheney. karl rove's character was actually pretty good. he was portrayed as a conniving bug, a power hungry mosquito that wouldn't quit. overall, it's pretty bad, and i feel like i wasted my life in that theater. i'm sure it might grow on me over time, since character study films are like that, but i wouldn't recommend paying full price at the theater for it.
