Day 3 of Anime Expo. Where to begin? Technically at 12am I was still in the Marriott hanging with people. Got back to the hotel at around 4-5am, passed out for another 4-5 hours. Woke up wondering how the hell I was going to cosplay Basara. Outfit still wasn't 100% (missing holsters, missing gold trim). Was extremely hard to get into it, then putting on the boot covers, then ghettoing a fishnet shirt out of what was a fishnet STOCKING.
Spent most of the day trying to navigate the con center hallways with SailorAnime. Don't really remember much of what happened, meeting people on the way, trying to check out the JET panel. One of the highlights of the day was the Macross Frontier Gathering. I borrowed Jarrod's Boombox and hooked up my MP3 player to it, and showed up to the gathering late, blasting music, because hey, its a MACROSS gathering. Songs come with the territory.
I was actually pretty afraid that most people wouldn't know who I was cosplaying, and would think "who the hell's this guy with the crazy hair playing Frontier music?" I think people knew the character I was cosplaying, but hadn't really seen the show. There were a few people who were really psyched to see Macross 7 cosplay, I just hope more people cosplay from it in the future (/r/ing full Fire Bomber Band plz). The gathering was great, lots of cool poses, lots of singing, lots of cosplay malfunctions on my part, mainly the boot covers :/ ).
After that was over, went to shoot with Ben really quickly and very impromptu. Total time between the gathering, walking to shoot, and shooting = 30 minutes. Tried to return said boombox to Jarrod, but he was unreachable, so had to drag the thing to the hotel so I could change back to Domon for Cosplay Chess. That took the better part of an hour and a half or so just because of the damn shuttle system taking forever at times to arrive. On the way back, saw Matt and the gang heading out to eat dinner, so I tagged along with the boombox (shit was getting heavy). Somehow ran into Freeman AGAIN for like the 20th time that day, and harassedshiroin for a little while.
Cosplay chess began, was very fun on the whole, though it's very hard to intentionally get your teams to stalemate each other, especially if you don't have a plan for it beforehand. Afterwards, met up with SA and shiroin again to do a impromptu G Gundam shoot. From there it was toyafromuk and Prince Ali's room for round 1, then to the Marriott for round 2 (Rev. Jax FTMFW). Once again, returned at around 4-5, slept for 4 or so hours, woke up and got packed. Drove to the con center, and chilled with various people while waiting for the Gundam 00 panel. Said goodbye to Katsu and then sat down with the rest of the 00 cosplayers.
I swear to god that Mizushima and Kuroda were wondering who the hell I was and what I was doing sitting with the 00 gang, cause there was a good five minute period when the translator was... translating and the two of them were staring at me and talking. That totally didn't feel awkward at all. Congrats super late to Owldepot and Jessiah for 2nd and 1st places in the ACP Gundam contest.
Now for the moment that made me feel like Derpy McFuckFace. They were shooting the 00 contestants with the creators when Mizushima goes "anyone who's cosplaying, lets take photos" or something to that effect. While I was just taking photos of the group, i see a bunch of maids in front make movements like putting down their shit, as in getting ready to go up, so I also follow suit, hand my camera to SA's friend and go up there. Take photos, whoo hoo.
Then looking at the photos later on, I realize I was the only non 00 character there. Maids weren't up there, just everyone else who was cosplaying from 00 that wasn't in the contest, and one dude from G. I still feel like such a jackass.
That was the end of the day for me, gave SA and her friends a ride to the airport, went home.
Crazy AX was Crazy. Wouldn't have changed a thing. Great meeting a whole bunch of people, and hanging out with old friends.
I got lazy towards the end of this, so thats why I didn't do any tags towards the end of the post. Technically I'm still at work too. I only started this last night because my internet decided to die for a bit and there was nothing else to do. Hey, it only took me 4 months to get around to this AX report ;D.
Maybe I'll even get to a PMX report before the year is over! And maybe Bandai will stop squeezing blood from the mecha stone!
