You left me in the dark

As everybody knows today was Saint Valentine's and I hope you all had a warm and fuzzy time with your significant other or palm and lube if that is how you choose to live your life.

I found it appropiate to purchase Elvis Costello's brilliant 2003 album "North", one of the loneliest and most desolate albums I've ever owned. This shit makes The Cure sound like a bunch of giggling schoolgirls. It makes Nick Drake sound like Jack Johnson. It makes Joy Division sound like New Order.

Seriously, it's smooth classical jazz and Costello's awesome voice and lyrics. A "concept album" in the tradition of Frank Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours" and Billie Holiday's "Lady in Satin" in that you play it when you're already on your second or third drink and by the end of its 45 minute running time you're on the floor in a drunken stupor with one hand outstretched and reaching towards the phone, but somehow feeling mysteriously hopeful and alive. Get it.

The day was good. Spent it with Mariana, who's finally back from the coast. We had lunch at this small Italian restaurant by her home, then we came back and some friends came over to greet her. We spent all afternoon talking about drugs and philosophy and when they finally got the hint and left we did many naughty things that I did take pictures of but can't show here.

These are the ones that I can show.

No picture comments because I'm drunk and lazy.
