Tutorial 4

i've been working on a batch of Marie Antoinette icons, and whenever I look through them, this certain icon sticks out for me. So I decided to write a tutorial for it. :x

go from

to
in PS7. should be compatible though.

first, we start off with the screencap from KirstenImages.com & crop it down to 100x100.

i ended up with this:

next you duplicate your base, setting it to Screen at 70%.

then you go to layer > new adjustment layer > hue/saturation, and set the master saturation to +40. i ended up w/ something better then what I got, but it still has some work to be done.

add another adjustment layer, only this time for selective color. (layer > new adjustment layer > selective color.)

Red
cyan: -100
yellow: +28

Yellow
cyan: +100
yellow: -33
black: -50

Neutrals
magenta: -15
yellow: -19

and we end up w/ something like this:

i like the colors of marie's face, but the sky is a little too dull for my tastes. so i merge all the layers (ctrl + shift + e.) and then add a new layer. then i get my brush tool out, and w/ the color 00C0FF, i brush over all of the sky, but exclude marie. it should end up something like this.

i then set that layer to soft light at 63%. and voila! we have our finished result of:

questions? concerns? examples of what you got? feel free to comment this tutorial! i love hearing feedback on what i do. :]
