poetry assignment
ok kids, i'm no poet so i need to know what you think...this is for a grade lol. it's supposed to be a narrative poem...
The moment I knew it was true (that's the title)
The afternoon after the perfect night,
I stood there in the sand and focused
On his profile. He was standing there unaware
Of the beauty he held in his smile. I tilted
My head to the right to see his brown
Hair fall just short of his eye brow.
Talking to his friend, laughter escapes
From his mouth. He moves
Toward me now by his signature
Walk, not noticing my observations.
Five steps later, his dark,
deep eyes move up to meet mine,
And a grin slides across
My face. He meets my grin with a sly
Smirk, like he always does.
“You wanna play?” he asks and points
To our sanctuary, the volleyball nets. I shrug
My shoulders while I try
To remove some sand from his. My attempt
Was stopped with his hand intercepting mine.
My raised eye brow
Is met with a tackle into the white powder
Sand. Screaming,
He lifts my sand covered
Back onto his sand covered shoulder.
“Guess I’m playing,” I say through
My giggles. Placed back on solid
Ground, our gaze meets again. We lean
Into each other’s hug, filled
With sweat, sand and love.
