Lately I've been watching a lot of Horrible Histories. And you should too :)
Based on the hugely popular kids books of the same name, HH is a kids sketch show beloved by adults too. Taking a look at the gruesome weirdness of history and teaching it to kids in a fresh funny way, HH is witty, extremely silly - it's been compared to Monty Python - and very very smart. Each episode features a clever comedy song that is usually a pastiche of an artist or era and the show's won all kinds of awards - including two British Comedy Awards - the first children's show to win any - and Children's BAFTAS. I really can't recommend it enough, not only is it very funny and clever with great witty knowing winks to the audience but I actually learn watching it. The show does its job so well and the regular cast who write and perform it have all been rightly lauded and loved for their fantastic work. And yes, there's been fanfic written about the characters and RPF about the cast. It's a show beloved by fangirls and it's really easy to see why. Pretty much all the episodes can be found on YouTube and I really advise anyone and everyone to check them out.
For a taster, here's the Kings and Queens Song, listing all who've royally ruled England in a very clever catchy way. I wish I could learn it!

And a song about what the RAF did in the Second World War, as done in classic 90s boy band style. Don't they look good in uniform? Also the ending brings a prickling to my eyes.
