Ok, not so much news as kind of current afairsy type stuff, but still awesome. I was gonna post some personal stuff about my private life but you guys don't want to read boring stuff like that. That's what my twitter feed and facebook page are for.
Junk food is addictive in Rats!
Which obviously means that it's addictive in humans. Seriously though yet another study has been done on junk food and the addictive qualities it has, brain chemicals released, happy centers stimulated, etc, that are similar in effect to drugs. Although this hasn't to my knowledge been studied in humans but I'm sure that there's a lobby or two or some big fast food companies out there that will squash it before it starts, despite the fact that it's almost taken as true that junk food does in fact have addictive qualities in humans.
There's an "Axis of Evil" in the junk food world that fast food companies take advantage of, and that I'm well and truely hooked - Fat, Salt and Sugar. Ever wondered if your favorite burger restaurant puts some secret drug in their food that makes you crave it? Well there is - FAT! This is one reason why I became a vegetarian, but it still hasn't worked completely. (chocolate anyone?)
Anecdotally I heard that it takes about two weeks (plus/minus a few days) to get over the cravings of junk food. That's one hell of a withdrawal but if you can do it you don't get cravings any more. Personally I'm not sure if I have the willpower. Damn you Axis of Evil!!!
Utopia is a place!
A recent study published in the Medical Journal of Australia shows that the Aboriginal community of Utopia, just northish of Alice Springs, has much better health standards and life expectancy than the NT average for Aboriginals. In fact their mortality rate is a staggering 40% lower!
Just goes to show what it could be like for Aboriginals if say, they are left alone and could self govern, and say, weren't displaced in the first effing place. Little things like that.
Just encase you don't know about Utopia, do some reading
here. When I first heard about it I was quite impressed.
Go Utopia!
