This is my observation. Attention is given (when not demanded) when something wonderful, or something terrible is about to happen. I was given the dark-side project, and I've been dwelling... in some ways this is good. Tonight, it was crushing chunks of snow methodically (I should have recorded it). attention is given out of boredom or lack of other outlets too.
attention is given for trade, like it has monitary value
i think its more that attention leads to something wonderfull or somethign terrible more than it signals the impending arival of either
