Bird Flu

Lots more vehicle related news, might as well make this a car blog :-)

Been ill with Flu, everyone seems to have been taken down with it recently.  We've been out in Horace loads recently, including trips to Wales, being moved on by the police in the middle of the night (turns out the 'verges' of the road belong to land owners) and recently a campsite in the Lake District.  It snowed when we were in the lake district, was well below zero in the evening, yet some nutters were in Tents!  It was SO cold that we had to bring the gas bottle inside and heat it with fan heater to get it to work!  Scenery up there is just stunning.

So in the morning when it was time to leave we had to negotiate a snowy Kirkstone Pass - the highest pass open to traffic in the lake district.  It was tricky, and sadly at one point I crashed Horace into a wall as we slid down a hill.  It was a light crash with the only damage being a slight denting of the passenger wheel arch.  On the way home we hit heavy rain and then the next disaster - the windscreen wipers gave up.  Ang was driving at this point, and she bravely drove about 30 miles in heavy rain with no wipers! I took the dash apart and had a look at the mechanism and basically it has rusted and broken.  Been to scrappers and got a replacement mechanism for £20 - woohoo!

Just bought a flat screen Freeview/TV/DVD for Horace that will run from 12V. Should be able to watch films to our hearts content now even when camping in the wilds!

RX7 is holed up for the winter, traffic and weather is too crappy at the moment to get any enjoyment out of it so i'll just have to remember to warm her up and take her round the block one a month till things get nicer.

More car news, Ang bought a 15 year old Eunos Roadster (Jap Import MX5).  The MG F is being returned as she has payed 50% of the finance on it, and quite frankly she'd get less for it second hand than the settlement figure is for the other half of the car.  The MG F is a very pretty car, but having had £1500 spent on the engine in the past I wouldn't want to see that happen again.  The MG F are legendary for head gasket failure.  Here is the Eunos next to my Efini.
